Wow, awesome collection!

My brother brought me a "Sunny" back from his holiday in South Africa. It's hilariously bad. It is built to look like a Sony PSOne (the baby playstation). The box boasts things like "Advanced 3D graphics" and "48Mhx CD audio" (yes, that's Mhx).

Now, I had a Famiclone as a kid and I don't remember it being this cheap. The Sunny is made from the roughest, cheapest, nastiest plastic you can imagine. The controllers are rough to the touch. The d-pad is basically 4 buttons and your fingers tend to get pinched when changing direction. There's no eject button, you just have to jam the cart (also really poorly made) into the slot until you hear a crunch. To remove it, you just pull until either the cart lets go (or the cart socket pulls off the board). The best part is the cables are a few inches long, so you have to sit right in front of the tv.

It does work fine with my UK TV though.

thought i'd bump.

anyone whos an expert, can you tell me what you think of the russian clone hardware? part of me thinks it will be built really well as their old cameras and synths were often quite high robust, sturdy and did the job they need to do quite well despite looking like a cheaper product.

The Russian clones are some of the best.
At the time they were produced (the older models, they still make them now) they were all that was available in Russia and nobody could afford to import legitimate consoles. The Russian carts and multi carts are pretty good quality too (if you can find them!).
Subor and Dendy models are probably the best ones to look out for.
Like all clones they have some compatibility issues with certain games but the vast majority of Famicom carts will work fine. You'll have to modify some of the old RF leads they come with but replacement leads etc are easy enough to get a hold of. The materials used are of cheaper quality but they are much better than most of the Chinese or South Korean systems.
The only drawback is that once you buy one you'll want some more :D

There's a good documentary here on Russian Clones -

It's in Russian :?: But it does contain some nice footage of Dendy's in action!

^ excellent! thanks. I have my eyes on a russian megadrive although i've been buying quite a lot of gaming stuff at the moment so I might not be able to afford it yet (despite it being cheap,i'm poor!)

yea I did suspect that their systems would be decent! and I can definitely see the appeal of collecting clone hardware, its like a rare find among all the regular stuff and it certainly adds a unique aspect to any collection :)

Yes there are a couple of semi-legitimate N64 shaped clones that were available from the likes of Argos in the UK in the last few years. It's probably one of the Arcade Action consoles you are thinking about? As clones go these are pretty good ones and can be picked up really cheaply now.
Clones come in all shapes and sizes. I've a few in XBox 360 and even PS3 shells.
It's why i love them :-)
