Although I did love the PSX feature, I did find the choice of top ten games somewhat, erm, uninspiring, especially as it contained 4 square games.

i think they did shape the outcome of the psx, instance everyone was sceptic the outcome of final fantasy would be on the psx,in the end it turned out to one of the best rpgs i ever played in my life..

I know what you mean. For a start Ridge Racer Revolution is a FAR superior game to GT2 imho

Great issue. The Afterburner Coin-Op Capers feature does bring back those great times and would love to have a go on that sit-down cabinet again. Nice retroinspection on the PS1 too.

Great issue I liked pretty much most of it the Afterburner feature I particularly enjoyed looking forward to the Double Dragon feature..

I wish you stop wasting pages on these Homebrew games, boring as hell and who's going download say the MSX space invaders when you can get it on Mame , PS2 etc..

I'd rather you'd scrap the Homebrew and have reviews for New Old games like you used to do with DS Contra 4 and please get the Full page old adverts back

Hell no ! Love the homebrew sections. Must admit when i see homebrew games for some of the 'rarer' systems is surprises me but there must be people playing it.

The comment about 'whos going to download MSX Space invaders when you can get it on MAME/PS2' is a stupid one though. Thats like some kid saying to me 'why are you playing those crappy Spectrum games for , play PS3...' etc. As for 'boring as hell' have you actually tried any of them ?

I love Commando on MAME, i'm sure if there was a PS3 version it might be incredible but i obviously like the Speccy version for the memories it brings back, the gameplay (Dont care so much about sound/graphics) and i like seeing how someone would create that game in 48k rather than tons of memory on a Playstation 3 for example. Love playing Space Invaders on the Atari VCS because of memories/gameplay/just enjoy it.

What next ? 'Get rid of all these crappy old shows and films from the 80's as the effects were bad, just have the latest CGI films....' etc !

I love the homebrew games on the Speccy, theyre playable as anything, good for a quick 5 minutes here and there instead of waiting for ages for levels to load etc. Granted not saying everyone has to like them but 100% disagree with the comment about 'why play Space Invaders on the MSX , play it on MAME/PS2' etc.

Please oh great and knowledgeable fountain of wisdom, list for us your top ten PlayStation games so that us mere mortals may bask in your overwhelming brilliance.

Oh, and BTW, there wasn't a single FPS in the top ten. You FAIL at reading.

Finally got a chance to flip through the MAG. The highlights for me:

I like the columns, but loved the writings of the American retro guy that used to be there... What happened to him?
- Retro Booty: allways nice! A good add to the mag.
- Coin-op capers I like a lot, though After Burner isn't my game.
- Cheap as chips: Winter Games - Coming home! The hours I spend playing that game... Nice!
- DOS-gaming: A 10/10! Love the 'in-depth' character of the article, with the bits about the sound card & video modes. I remember using a 'Hercules' program as well, for better graphics... But that was for monochrome monitors. This is the kinda stuff I love to read most of all. A good mix of recognizable games and hardware info... My god... 486! :o
- Why you must play: Never ever let this one go. You guys helped me learning to know games that became my absolute favourite! Act Raiser for example. Expecially the 'The Conversions' bit is a nice bit too!
- Sid crowd: I'm a C64 fan. So I'm a Sid fan. Nice to read an in depth feature with the people who 'made' Sid what it is today. A top read.
- CRASH: And the retro-goodness doesn't seem to stop this issue! Now for a ZZAP 64! feature?? IDEA: wouldn't it be nice to publish one or two authentic pages of an old games-magazine in every issue of RG?
- Playstation: Not much of a 90's man myself (concerning games), but a nice read. Everyone had a PSX, so very recognizable.
- Retorated: This section I allways read first when I reveive my RG! To get in the right mood :) A nice link between past & present, and good for making plans where to spend my 'pocketmoney' on. (read: how to persuade the wife to...)
- Homebrew: Hmmm... That 'The Wild Bunch' is a must try! C64 forever!! (sorry, got quite emotional there)

It's been a long time since my RG had so much in it for me. One of the best issues ever. Cheers!

This has come up a few times on the forum, but I imagine many people would get terribly angry if they saw pages of reprint in the mag. Also, it's a logistical nightmare. For stuff where the publisher's still going, you'd have to secure permission, but also find out if the writer was properly contracted at the time. And with articles where the publisher no longer exists (say, Newsfield), you'd need to find out who owns the IP (which may have been sold to or may be owned by different people).

Just finished and found it another good read. Quite liked the After Burner article despite never really having an interest in the game. The Crash, SID and Molyneux interviews were all great. Shame no mention of Psycho Santa(?) the freebie Bullfrog did for an Amiga mag. Didn't particularly like Iain Lee having cheap pops at the forums though, only negative but not really that much of a downer.
