Enjoyed the After Burner article, and this is definitely a format that works wonderfully for games that don't have a making-of (although you could easily weld the bits after the opening spread to a making-of for a particularly popular game.

It was also good to see that the team covered both of the C64 versions, and tracked down Darrin (who I interviewed for the mag waaaaay back in issue 25—again about his After Burner conversion!). Anyone who wants to make the comparison themselves, Lemon64 has pages on the UK and US releases, and there's also the capable First Strike by Elite.

My issue has just arrived, normally get it on Sat morning but never mind.

I like the cover, although I do think it should have had some kind of festive theme. Don't think it had to be a Christmas game but as others have said it could have just have been as it is but with some snow or something.

Only had a very quick flick through but looks good.

Afterburner
Peter Molyneux
Yie Ar Kung Fu
SID
Playstation
Crash

all look fantastic, never really into ToeJam & Earl and I hope the DOS article is not all about the technical stuff.

Don't mind Iain lee, and it's not like he takes up four pages.....

Mine arrived on Saturday, had a quick glance, but started the proper read on the train this am, I had expected an xmas theme cover, but been afterburner does not bother me in the slightest, it was nice to see Shaun (arcade barn) in the mag and point out to my wife the Afterburner I had a go on at the barn a couple of months back. I do love the Arcade related stuff in the mag.

Looking forward to reading the rest, one little gripe though is the paper quality of the mags seems to be getting poorer, but then maybe thats just my imagination.

Cheers, keep up the good work and merry Christmas.

Why did only 2 of you have xmas hats on the 2nd page?

Because we were the only two that turned up at the Retro Gamer party.

We could have had a RG readers party......

Is the feedback in this thread really that bad Darran? Something tells me you had a hangover when you wrote that piece?????!

Nah, he's just grumpy because I got to wear the elf hat. Incidentally, every time I see that image, it reminds me of Dudley Moore in Santa Claus The Movie.

It's not bad at all. I was simply pointing out the feedback I don't like. I have no problems with anything that has gone up in this current issue.

Mh, you did not actually say what post you're replying too though. All you did was make a general rant about how the same negative feedback all the time is not helping. What feedback in this topic were you referring to then?

I was responding to someone and I haven't ranted at all. Now if you want a rant let me get the current issue out the way and then you can have one.

As someone who gets absolutely fed up of the deluge of tinsel, red hats, and terrible music that this time of year always brings, the lack of a Christmas feel cover was a relief! :D

Just finished an immersive session of reading of the mag. I think the fact that I usually spend a week reading a section at a time in between doing other things, and yet today it landed on the mat, and has been read cover to coever already speaks volumes about the issue! Definitely one of the finest issues to date.

Afterburner fell out of favour with me a few years back, but after reading the article - which, as an aside, I must comment on how the different approach to lookback worked beautifully - I have longings for either loading up MAME, or digging through my PS2 discs for the remake.

The DOS gaming article brought many memories of gaming greats flooding back, some which I have only recently begun replaying myself (Fallout, Dune 2, and Monkey Island in particular).

The CRASH feature was beautifully presented, and one of the best interviews of the year. CRASH holds a special place in the hearts of many of us, and the feature conveyed that well.

The rest of the mag was business as usual...and business is good :)

All in all, a great Retro way to see out the year. Here's to the next 12 months of issues.

Whom though?

To quote you:

Everyone is entitled to give feedback here, whether it's good or bad. The issue I and others have is when the same thing is moaned about again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again.

Feedback is essential to the success of the magazine and it's always taken on board and listened do (if not always acted upon) but when people keep uttering the same old thing every month it just becomes tiring, doesn't actually contribute in anyway and ends up derailing the threads main purpose.

You do neither quote another post nor adress a specific poster so how are we supposed to know a) that you are replying to someone in specific and b) to whom you are?

Hmmm... It's not only the cover lacking Christmas-spirit this year...

The most ironic thing is that Darran's post has taken up twice as much room as any complaints about Iain Lee this month, of which there were hardly any. Myself I simply said my opinion hadn't changed. I fail to see that this is a real problem post.

To be honest this reaction by Darran is a bit beneath the editor really, a bit snidey and definitely not in the festive spirit.

Are we really supposed to watch what we say in case we repeat ourselves. I'm sure we've all been guilty of repition in the past. What are you saying Darran, that you welcome feedback as long as it tows the party line? To speak purely for myself I read all posts on the feedback forum. Some of them I agree with, some of them I don't. That's how the world works. I read them all anyway, out of a thing called politeness. In a civilised society I feel everyone has a right to express an opinion, whether it agrees with mine or not. So what if someone has repeated themselves, there are worse crimes, and if it is how that person feels about a topic, then it's their right to say it. I think the forum should encourage people to say what they think (within reason), not be issuing dictates of what can be dared to be spoken about. I really passionately believe that its important to have some tolerance of other people's views, even if they're not yours.

I've really enjoyed being a member of this forum over the last year, and I will miss it. But I can't see the point of being part of a community that allows people to be shouted down for expressing an opinion that doesn't agree with theirs (a big thank you here to all those that sent me abusive messages 2 months ago for my apparent repetition of my Iain Lee complaints) . It's now reached the extent that even the editor is making odd posts about those who don't agree with him.

To finish, thank you to all those who have helped me with my queries, and thank you to all those who have entertained me with their excellent posts. I know this community will go on without my precense, and I probably won't be missed, but I just feel that there is something wrong going on here..
