If there are issues that really concern people, surely the way to go is to write a letter about it? I tend to think that banging out a quick forum comment with a barbed comment or two requires very little effort and can be done just on a whim. If people take the time to offer a constructive comment and go to the lengths of posting it, then the effort probably deserves a bit more respect.

Still, I suppose even the standard magazine 'mailbag' is probably 99% e-mails now anyway.

I've not been posting much on the forum recently (well, for half the year actually) since I've been forced back into the world of studying and exams over a decade after I thought I'd seen the back of it - but this month's issue is so good that it's dangeroulsy interupting my schedule - excellent work (in fact the last few issues have all been outstanding, distractingly so).

I'm absolutely loving the cover (yes, I was initially disappointed that it has no Xmas theme, but it's so bright, vibrant, and screams RETRO out loud, it's a winner).

DOS gaiming and Playstation - double thumbs up for those two as well.

Great work from all of the Retro Gamer staff and contributers - let's hope 2010 can maintain the high standards we've seen this year!

Put me down for another vote in favour of Iain Lee's column btw.

Because we were the only two that turned up at the Retro Gamer party.

About half way through so far, and very impressed!

Some of the highlights for me so far include the usual Back to the Feature, Craig's excellent SID article (Getting hold of Martin Walker was a superb coup), the Myriad retrospective, Crash article (Fantastic read and stories - hope to see a Zzap equivalent next year!), Toe Jam and Earl (Developers were certainly smoking something there ;) ), Moment with Jeff Minter (Sounds like there is something bigger in the pipeline?... hope so, more of this please!), Ram Jam .... too much to mention already.

Off to read the other half now - well done lads.

It was a lovely surprise getting the email back from Martin, and he was the person I alluded to in the original thread on the article. Anyone into chill-out music might like to check out his albums, too.

The issue I and others have is when the same thing is moaned about again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again.

Feedback is essential to the success of the magazine and it's always taken on board and listened do (if not always acted upon) but when people keep uttering the same old thing every month it just becomes tiring, doesn't actually contribute in anyway and ends up derailing the threads main purpose.

The most ironic thing is that Darran's post has taken up twice as much room as any complaints about Iain Lee this month, of which there were hardly any. Myself I simply said my opinion hadn't changed. I fail to see that this is a real problem post.

To be honest this reaction by Darran is a bit beneath the editor really, a bit snidey and definitely not in the festive spirit.

Are we really supposed to watch what we say in case we repeat ourselves. I'm sure we've all been guilty of repition in the past. What are you saying Darran, that you welcome feedback as long as it tows the party line? To speak purely for myself I read all posts on the feedback forum. Some of them I agree with, some of them I don't. That's how the world works. I read them all anyway, out of a thing called politeness. In a civilised society I feel everyone has a right to express an opinion, whether it agrees with mine or not. So what if someone has repeated themselves, there are worse crimes, and if it is how that person feels about a topic, then it's their right to say it. I think the forum should encourage people to say what they think (within reason), not be issuing dictates of what can be dared to be spoken about. I really passionately believe that its important to have some tolerance of other people's views, even if they're not yours.

I've really enjoyed being a member of this forum over the last year, and I will miss it. But I can't see the point of being part of a community that allows people to be shouted down for expressing an opinion that doesn't agree with theirs (a big thank you here to all those that sent me abusive messages 2 months ago for my apparent repetition of my Iain Lee complaints) . It's now reached the extent that even the editor is making odd posts about those who don't agree with him.

To finish, thank you to all those who have helped me with my queries, and thank you to all those who have entertained me with their excellent posts. I know this community will go on without my precense, and I probably won't be missed, but I just feel that there is something wrong going on here..

Wow, someone's stocked up on a healthy dose of "taking things out of context" pills today

Look it's a feedback thread. Where have I ever said that you can't post here unless you're constantly kissing my arse? Nowhere that's where.

If you want to keep on mentioning something that annoys you then that's your perogative and I'm not going to stop you. I'm not going to ban you for saying you don't like my editorials, or Paul Davies' Columns, or the making ofs or anything else that goes into the mag. No one's shouting you down at all. I'm simply saying I don't personally like it when people mention the same old thing month after month because it rarely gets resolved and often ends up derailing the thread (thinks back to various iphone discussions) and based on the feedback I personally get and the feedback in threads others don't either. But that's not secret code for DONT EVER MENTION THESE THINGS AGAIN OR ELSE I"L BEAT YOU WITH A WET STUFFED TROUT I'm simply stating my opinion and when it comes to the forum mine is no more valid than anyone else's as I like to think we're all friends here who share a common bond.

No one wants you to leave, as you contribute a lot to the discussions that happen here. We're on deadline at the moment so I'm a bit snippy and prone to sarcasm as I like using it. I apologise if you took offence at what I wrote, it wasn't entirely aimed at yourself. But honestly, don't leave the bloody forum. It's Christmas after all.

I said this about the Space Harrier article and (sorry Darran for repeating feedback  ) I feel the same about the Afterburner artice - AMAZING format and content and design.

I may go so far as to say (ass kissing alert) its the best thing the mag has ever done - Of course, I now expect the same treatment for every main arcade machine feature and I hope there is one in every issue.

Issue 71 is truly an early Christmas pressie.

The SID Crowd, Crash Smash and the Peter Molyneux articles being the stand out ones for me, with the AfterBurner, DOS Gaming and Playstation articles coming in a close second.
Jeff Minter needs to be in the magazine more often! Can't wait till you have a fulsome interview with the Yak, get him to write some articles! Better still a developers diary. ;)

Top job lads.

I wish it was true for overseas subs too. I usually get the mag a couple of weeks later. WAAAAAAAH!!!
On the bright side, this issue might arrive just in time to put it under the Christmas tree...

I really look forward to the DOS games and SID features. Thanks for the Christmas gift, guys!
