I thought it was an astonishingly harsh review, frankly. It's a good (if not entirely perfect) conversion, and the controls are pretty good.

Just regarding the Bond games feature... I didn't see the 3 James Bond Spectrum Light Gun games in there. Or were they considered not to really be Bond games?

Yeah - me too, makes them stand out more. Also, I think the covers are very important for attracting attention to potential new readers on the newsagents' shelves. It was actually the bomberman cover that first made me notice RG. I know that wasn't a 'novelty' cover, but if a standout front page can attract the attention of Mr Unobservant, then it must have some effect.

Can we have one that spontaneously catches fire?

just a shame at my local Smiths they shove RG to the back of the bottom shelf where no one can see it - I even saw it next to Retro Ford magazine once! (Luckily I sub - but still, it's shame)

Just finished the piracy article. Brought back some memories of blank C90s full of booty - but seeing as I spent ALL my pocket money on games, I dont think this was ever a loss to the industry. I simply had no more to spend. But, I do agree that copyright should be respected - but in a realistic way. (The Chinese guys who come around to the building sites where my brother works with knock off DVDs are a different matter...)

The split cover is starting to annoy now though....it's close to paper cut territory - I have Lawyers 4 You on 24 hour standby

Usually it comes without fail on the saturday, first time this has happened. If its not there when I get home tonight I'll be filing a missing magazine report with the police.

Finished reading the rest of the issue now, really enjoyed Kim's piece on Harvest Moon and the Donkey Kong Country feature.

Oh, and did you know Elite had planned to bring The Cliffhanger Edward Randy to home computers but never released it?

Finished mine earlier today and felt a pang of sadness that it had ended for another month

Highlights for me are the Piracy article, although it could have covered a lot more than it did (with the same page space). Radical Software - awesome (as I stated earlier), The Primal Rage article I surprisingly enjoyed, mainly because I never knew there was a PR2 proposed! Also, love to hear the stories of the animation methods (would never had guessed it was claymation), Allan Alcorn, very cool read, Obscura Machina - I HATE YOU ALL.... ('cos now I have to hunt down a c64GS  ), very enjoyable read from the DK article - learnt a few bits of trivia from it... Homebrew section - totally coolamundo, as per usual..

Lowlights (not many, but...) Bond article - it just felt like there wasn't enough information on each game, and at (if the version was lucky) 1 screenshot for the game, it gave me no impetus to hunt them down, and Retrorated... I know the argument has been done to death regarding new vs old, but it seems that coverage of new games for this gen of consoles with the slightest connection to a 'retro' game are insidiously expanding month by month...

All in all, still the highlight of the month, and a great job to all involved...

One question though is... whos sphincter do you have to tongue to get a mention in the 'from the forum' section?? It's the same people every month... and trust me, i've done a head count

My fave feature was Primal Rage. The acrade machine just blew me a way at the time. Maybe one day I can get hold a acrade machine to own. Until then I'll stick with my Jaguar CD and Mega Drive copies.

Glad you enjoyed the article. It was one of those that was great fun from an interview perspective, due to the story behind the game's content and mechanics—all the Harryhausen references and SF2 videoing to get the timing right!

Retro Rated hasn't changed in size since issue 64. It's still just 5 pages and always will be.
