Issue 19 sold out?

Postby White Demon on Thu Jan 05, 2006 9:32 am

I just rang the Imagine orders line a few minutes ago to order a copy of issue 19 and was informed that they have sold out.

I read earlier somewhere else in this forum that issue 20 was released to the general public today (5 Jan). Going by other remarks and so forth, once issue 20 was out, issue 19 could be ordered by phone.

Is issue 19 really sold out already? I thought that issue 19 may have been popular, not that that popular that it would have sold out in half an hour surely?

Oooooooooh!

A repeat of Issue 1 - look out for some git selling for a silly high price on ebay!

I think it is still on the shelves at Tesco near me....... I'll have a look later and get one or two - if they have sold out White Demon, I could pop one in the post!
Assuming they are still in stock........ and you pay me

EDIT:

Actually, if they are still at my local, one of my staff is hear on holiday from Australia - I could get her to bring it back and post it from OZ? She lives in Perth!

There were still a few in my local WHSmith when I was there yesterday*, although they'll likely be pulled when the new issue is on the shelves.

* Cleverly faced behind one of those huge gamesâ„¢ Retro specials, hence why they probably hadn't sold...

Went into my Local WH Smiths today and they haven't even got issue 20 in yet. They still had 5 copies of issue 19 left which considering they originally had 6 copies and I purchased 1 is interesting.

I also went to the only other newsagents in town where I have ever found Retro Gamer and they still had issue 19 on the shelves as well.

Anybody actually seen issue 20 on the shelves yet??

Hopefully someone from RG can actually comment on this. If they are sold out.... I might have to take you up on that offer.

Presumably RG is on sale-or-return so when newsagents send back unsold copies Imagine will have a supply they can sell direct to readers.

I'll have a look in my local Smiths later on.

I was going to get an extra copy to store away just in case the kids wreck my existing copy of issue 19.

Magazines operate on sale or return. The mags that don't get sold get returned to the distributer and then to the publisher where they will be retained for selling as back issues or pulped. And judging by the amount of magazines I've seen left languishing on shelves there will be plenty heading back to Imagine to be sold. So don't worry.

Not quite true.

They're not returned. The covers are pulled off and returned, the magazines are thrown away. It would cost way too much to send back all those heavy mags.

Well, they certainly don't seem to be torn up here in Oz - Gordon & Gotch have been re-releasing double packs of RG and other computing magazines, which seems to indicate they get shipped back intact.

For quite a while after they first appeared I was double-checking each one to see if any had an Issue 1 in them - alas, to no avail (the earliest I saw in the packs was Issue 3.)

It was certainly true in the UK. As an employee of a shop that sold mags we could get them free if we tore off the cover. Which is why my RG1 and 2 are unfortunately coverless.

Well I checked yesterday in WH Smiths in Torquay and they had about 4 copies of RG19. I was tempted to buy an additional copy to go with my existing RG19 (just in case the kids rip it to shreds!) but a little voice (i.e. the girlfriend) told me not to bother.

I'm going to try and have another look today and see if they have RG20 in yet.
