The latter half of your post looked like you were taken a genuine delight in a mistake. That obviously wasn't the case.

Perhaps 'whining' isn't the correct word, but you did tell me off (not in a nasty way, I hasten to add) in a PM for making a couple of joke threads about typos and mistakes a few years back, along with deleting one of the threads. I accept what you say about 'having fun', but I don't at all understand what you're going on about when you say that I looked like I was taking 'delight' in a 'mistake', having re-read my own post, when I was asking for somebody to put a photo up to prove that the article was correct and I was wrong, because (to be fair) I'd practically convinced myself that it didn't get a full price 'big box' release because I'd spent that long looking for it as a kid back in 1990/1991 looking for it before giving up and eventually just settling for the Hit Squad release as well, which seemed to be on sale everywhere :?

Actually, your response looked like you just taken my whole post as 'Oh, here's Toxie having another moan about what he thinks is a mistake in my wonderful magazine' and then taken 'genuine delight' in somebody proving me wrong. Which came across as childish in the extreme, considering that I was enquiring about a feature that Richard Burton and Martyn Carroll put together and Richard had already replied to me with a pic (ie. it wasn't even anything to do with anything you'd written).

I enjoy the mag and forum and having a bit of a laugh and a joke and banter and all, but not the editor of the magazine taking the p!ss out of me making an enquiry about an article when I've spent money buying the mag for years to help keep you guys in business (I've been a subscriber since issue 2 back in the old Live Publishing days, and for the entire Imagine Publishing run so far). If you don't like seeing anything other than back slapping positive feedback and take offence if somebody asks you or any of the mag's writers to validate something, then what is the actual point of a 'feedback' thread? Might as well call it the 'Say how great you think issue X of Retro Gamer mag is!' if that's the case.

I was hardly take the censored out of you, I'm sorry you think that but it really wasn't the case at all.

Feedback is feedback, good or bad and we've never stopped anyone from given CONSTRUCTIVE feedback. I've already mentioned that I misread your post, but that's obviously not enough. This is why I hate forums and don't come on here much anymore. People's words get mis-read because you can't catch the tone they're putting across and when you admit to mis-reading something people still have to go on about it.

I think it's best if we leave the forum to readers and we'll simply make the magazine instead. That way everyone is happy. I'm going back to bed now. I'm full of cold and feel like absolute crap.

Gotta sympathise with Darran here a bit. Most people I'm sure want him to hang around the forum and just be able to post like one of us. But it seems to me as though as soon as he posts something that someone takes offence to they come back with that old chestnut "hey, I'm a paying customer!" and then where can he go?

I've had the issue since Wednesday, when I got back from my weekend away, but I've not had a chance to look at it properly yet. I'm really looking forward to the Alien Trilogy piece.

Not liking the cover much, though. It's well made and that, but every now and then, I'm just a wee bit self conscious of carrying the 'kiddy' covers into work and such, although I'm sure the vast majority coudn't care less.

Absolute top marks for the content, tho.

STILL not convinced about the up to date reviews - just because a game has a tenous link to a game from the past should not make it suddenly be classed as retro...ish. That's probably just my opinion though.

Believe me a lot of people feel the same way.

I do have to 'go on' about this (sorry everybody else) because I think your original reponse was damn childish, your follow up response was also damn childish (saying my post had made it look like I was 'taking delight' in pointing out mistakes...that's no proper apology, but whatever) and now this nonsense. 'Oh dear, one of the forum members doesn't like my attitude towards him, now I'll make a dramatic announcement about leaving and moan about my bad day for a quick sympathy vote on the way out.' Incidentally, (and I'm being 100% honest) my 62 year old mum's just been admitted to hospital with Jaundice and a probable severe liver problem which looks like it's gone undetected for years, and I'm backwards and forwards from visiting her at the moment. We're all having a bad day, but like you having a cold and feeling like crap, it's completely irrelevant to this discussion really.

At any rate, I don't want you (or any of the other RG staff) to refrain from posting on your own forum, all I do want you to do is take on board what I've said and hopefully think twice before the next time you, as the magazine's editor, decide to verbally stick two fingers up to one of your magazine's long term subscribers when an enquiry is made about one of the mags articles, and then believe that a curt response is an acceptable end to things when you're called out on it. I've actually considered ending my subscription to the mag because of it.

I don't have (or want) anything else to say on the matter, either publicly or via PM so you don't have to worry about this turning into a long running flame war or feel you have to message me or anything. Like I said earlier, I'll just go back to avoiding feeback and verifying the info elsewhere in future...best for all concerned really.

You're right. My cold has nothing to do with anything. I didn't stick my fingers up at you, but you think I did, and I really can't change the way you think, which puts me in a bind.

I'm sorry I said something in jest on a forum and you took it the wrong way. I'm also sorry that my follow up post wasn't the response you wanted. It was wrong of me and I won't do it again.

Now hopefully we can get back to this as a discussion about the current issue.
And I'm sorry to hear about your mum, I hope she's okay.

If you do want to continue this take it to pm as this thread is now being kept for FEEDBACK only.

Here's my feedback- When you pop on here Darran, you have as much right to an opinion as we all do. If some like to offer critiques that turn out incorrect and can't deal with it if proven wrong, that's not your prob. And when a sense of humour and fun is bought in, and some get oversensitive, think they're getting the censored taken out of them...it gets a bit pathetic. A sense of fun isn't allowed apparently? :?
Jeez if I got offended everytime someone took the censored when I was proven wrong...

Desperately attempting to put a positive spin on that, at least Issue 95 has seen a welcome drastic reduction in the amount of smartphone game coverage. :D

i'll second that.

Darren is spot on, having read the threads involved. constructive feedback is just as important as positive feedback, it gives them something to work with for the future issues. It needs to be put to bed now. I'm still enjoying the issue!

as for the fifa article, i for one think it is a good piece. the franchise is nearly 20 years old, there are not many that can boast this, selling a new game every year and taking it to new levels on almost most of them.

i may not be a massive football fan, but it has shown us the way in the genre.

The FIFA piece was fine and like other genres is an important part of the gaming chronology, also gonna stand up for Darren, he's a decent guy and generous with his time with a very small team to make the mag, anyone at Replay go say Hi, (on his behalf :P ) he'll be more than happy to talk to you about anything in the mag, he'll probably ignore me now! :D
