can't really see what I'd do with a poster to be honest.

I love retro game posters, but a poster every issue would be too much. I have my gaming/computing den but that already has a framed Bob Wakelin signed Wizball poster, Knight Lore and Jet Set Willy framed poster! Would only have room for one or two more :)

Maybe a poster every 6 issues would be good, everyone on the forum voting for the one they would like or something.

Cammy wrote:I loved getting posters with magazines, I have the Game Over one from Retro Gamer on my wall beside my computer. I don't like Future Classics or any of the reviews of modern games, I buy Retro Gamer because of the content about old games and systems, and new homebrew games for old systems, not reviews of new games on next gen consoles and Windows PCs.

It's a shame that nothing we say is going to change anything in the magazine. They know it will sell anyway, so it doesn't matter how much effort they need to put in anymore. I'm really only still buying the magazine because I've been getting it since the very beginning, I hardly enjoy each new monthly issue anymore.

I used to poo in my pants for a good couple of years, but I'm glad I didn't carry on simply because I'd been doing it from the very beginning.

Habit is a ridiculous excuse; if you don't like something, stop doing it. As well as feedback on here, the main thing that will force action is declining circulation figures, so vote with your feet. Or lack of cash.

To be perfectly honest, I don't think there's a lot wrong though. The standard of writing seems to have actually improved in the past few months (bar one or two boring pieces), and the stuff that's being covered is a nice mix, as far as I'm concerned. I've got a couple of gripes - the main one being a lack of sports games coverage (and the comparative obsession with shooters), but for the most part, it's all good. There's always room for improvement, but it's far from poor.

Besides, posters in magazine are generally poor quality, folded, and only ever used by pre-teens. As others have said, buy a print or something.

I think the style and layout of the mag is great as it is, although little changes here n there to keep it fresh are always good.

I don't know about posters, but I always enjoy seeing older advert reprints from the '80s etc. Artwork is always welcome too, be it the old advertising artwork, or concept art during game design.
Otherwise, my only suggestion is keep it varied, which for the most part it does anyway. Too much focus on one machine or brand has fans of the 'other' unhappy...so a good mix will ensure the majority are happy-and that's the name of the game...100% happy is impossible!

I would particularly like to see the long awaited feature on handheld/tabletop games, and I'd like a feature on Vtech's creativision (down in Australasia badged as the D1ck Smith Wizzard). Actually...I wouldn't mind seeing a feature done on Hong Kong/China console Clones either, or rebadged machines, if it hasn't been done already. :)

old adverts REALLY take me back. I would be lusting after the latest games advertised, so they really stuck in my head. Also seeing them lets me remember games I have totally forgotten about

Yeah, same. I really enjoyed the issue#1 with the issue#100 (sorry to bring THAT up again  ), and those archive adverts etc in there were great. So I'd be more than happy to see more archive adverts added. If some want to make them 'posters' well, that's up to them of course! :)

While I love the idea of an adverts gallery (from a work load point of view) I don't think they really add anything to the magazine. I also think you'd have the old retro revival clash where some will love them and others will think they're a complete waste of space.

I have to say, I hated the galleries in early editions of Retro Gamer. They just smacked of filler, and I felt there wasn't enough curation. However, there would also be issues with quality and, presumably, rights. It's one thing to run the odd thumbnail of an old ad or mag cover, but much larger galleries must get lawyers' spidey-senses twitching.

If I want to look at adverts I'd go on WOS, they've got thousands of them there.

Now, I can see two possibilities here. An infrequent "what were they thinking of?" critique of bad adverts, or an addition to making of/interviews where the CREATION of artwork is discussed.

Or...adverts that made teenage boys horny. I'm thinking Barbarian, Vixen, Game Over...give me two weeks and a box of tissues and I'll write it.

Yes, It's a fair point many readers would consider retro advert galleries filler, I've always enjoyed them though. It's one of the reasons I buy early '80s copies of the US Electronic Games mag (when I can find them and if you can get them for a non crazy price)- The nostalgic advertising of the time.
I guess it is a case of you can't please all the people all the time :)
