Again?

And so you should. Nothing wrong with replaying games you love. Gaming is meant to be about playing games and entertainment. Not trying to stretch yourself across as many titles as possible. A fact many people forget imo.

Kid Icarus (GB) - fun! And not too difficult to get through once you've learned enemy and boss patterns. Might go back for a second playthrough, because apparently I didn't do well enough to earn some late-game powerups.

Red Faction: Guerilla (PC) - my first time playing a Red Faction game, the destructible environments are super-impressive - going to be disappointed whenever I hit a wall with a melee weapon in another game, only to have it NOT crumble into pieces. Unfortunately, Normal difficulty was just too tricky, hostages would get pummelled by constantly respawning enemies. Casual difficulty was much more fun, and introduced me to the joys of sledgehammering as a viable offensive tactic :)

FF13-2 - finally. The game was a real pain in the last level, the 'story' really kicked in, meaning there were a lot of cut scenes. None of it made any sense at all, despite the fact I'd played and finished FF13 and paid at least some attention for most of the game. The dialogue was cringe worthy, the music almost sickening. I can only assume that a child was employed as writer, the game wasn't translated properly and no one did any QA. Who is this nonsense aimed at??

On to the positives, i still like the battle system and the non linear time travel idea was good enough to keep me interested.

After finishing you get to fight extra monsters and do puzzles to collect all the crystals. This gets you a few achievements and an extra bit of ending, should you want to replay the last chapter again. I tried it for half an hour but it soon became clear level grinding was all that was required, no thanks.

Probably a 4/10.

Top quality FPS. One of the finest single player FPS's'ssss of all time. Up there with Half Life and Doom. Quake 4 is a solid follow up (at least on PC - can't vouch for the silly twiddle-stick console version).....

Steel Storm - Burning Retribution

Haven't had as much fun on a shooter on PC in a long time. Finished the main campaign, and the extra bonus levels/mods quite quickly :D
And for the first time in a long time, would welcome some more mods to extend the experience

Roll on SS2....

Just finished VVVVVV. Great game! It is punishingly hard, but never unfair. A rare trait in games these days.

Darksiders for the PS3. Great fun, most of the time its a nice mix of platforming and action. My only problem with the game was the last big level that was basically just loads of portal style puzzles - it was fun at first but then just ended up pretty samey and slow going (and it went on forever!). The end boss battle is one of my favourites in recent memory and the ending set up for the impending sequel perfectly (which I now can't wait to play).

Completed Trinity Universe on PS3 and got the bad ending. also found out that i have missed 2 out of the 4 secret characters. FML

Cool game, much like Cross Edge and it does open up at the end, but with all those games in the 'to play pile' i think i'll move onto something else soon. Might do the little bit extra to see the normal ending at least. Sod going for the True ending

Half Life 2 Episode 2, on the 360.

The strider battle at the end was epic, but unfortunately overly frustrating due to the depressingly poor car controls. I don't think it's any more controllable on a PC, judging by a thread on another site for 'worst parts in Half Life' which has many, many posts nominating this part of the game.

Some parts of Episode 2 were ridiculously good; the mission to shut down the turrets in the breaker's yard, just before the lambda cache challenge was probably my favourite section of any Half Life game (although I have fond memories of Nova Prospekt)

Once I remembered that you can manually save on demand (which I wish were mandatory for all games of this type), I was able to complete it, but it felt like cheating.

Started playing through again with the director's commentary, but I'm in two minds as I can't pick up some missing achievements this way.

Ratchet & Clank 3 on PS2... horrible horrible game, it was good right until the difficultly ramped right up, even when fully upgraded your weapons may as well be pea shooters, a lock on system that just doesn't work properly especially with air going enemies, how I made it through the last few levels God only knows

The worst part? it seems as they decided to make the game into more of a cover based shooter than 3D platformer whereas the first game got the shooty/platforming bits nigh on perfect, the second game ventured a bit further into more shooting... the third is a pisstake, shoot some stuff, run out of ammo (your main gun holds 300 rounds the weakest enemy later in the game takes 20-30 rounds to kill), get killed, repeat..

The good news is that I've still got Ratchet: Gladiator, Secret Agent Clank and Size Matters to play through...

Ratchet: Gladiator I'm not expecting a lot from as it's essentially a shooter, I hope Clank and Size Matters go more biased to the platforming..

I trudged through to the end of Gears of War 2. So, so much better than the first game but still not great by any means. The story was all over the place & featured one of the lamest endings I've seen in a long time.

I don't really get Gears of War, on a technical front its fun to play but it just has none of the charm or excitement of it's fellow competitors (Halo, Crysis, etc etc)
