I'm currently playing 1.5/ 360 mode/ original and have just about managed to hit the 4th level on one credit. Utterly mental stuff- I was playing until 2 this mornng and the bullet patterns were starting to get seriously psychedelic.

What a game!
Sure is great.. I'm working my way through the arrange modes.. done all the Novice Arrange modes 1CC and done Original & Maniac arrange modes 1CC.. Ultra is causing me problems, though my high score is 358,466,277

Very impressive mate! :)

I'm struggling to do level 3 cleanly still- I actually find it far tougher than level 4.

Some insane bullet patterns... I cannot get past stage 3 on 1 credit.. (yet) playing on 1.5 mode.. Have you got the Black Label download? It's alot faster and slicker.. and the bosses seem to die quicker using the secondary weapon (holding down the button).. awesome.

Finally got Ketsui: Kizuna Jigoku Tachi Extra through the door today.. Been on it an hour so far and on first impressions I was a little disappointed they hadn't done a full hd remake like they did with Mushiihimesama and Espaluga II, but the music is fantastic and more importantly, the gameplay is pretty damn incredible, very hard but incredible. Cave?.. I love you.

Yeah, found a table at MCM Expo so I bought all the ones that had characters that nobody else would appreciate.

I just got registered to retro gamer after subscribing to this magazine for >1 year, and was instantly attracted to this thread.

It seems that this thread consists of prodominantly shmup fans - you guys may also be interested in this discussion on 1up.com - we are also another bunch of hardcore shmup fans there:

Anyway, the new Death Smiles II is ok, great graphics but a bit too easy and frequent slow down due to low frame rate.... just my 2 cents... :D

That's emulated so it's easier to dodge the bullets.

Thats really impressive 1 cc it on Maniac.. I can get to level 4 on 1 credit normal on the 1.5 edition alternating the shots depending on what your score is to get bigger gems is trickier still.. Trying to chain level 3 getting stuck with the Pea Shooter on the Big enemies..

I hear not many people in Japan have done Ultra yet.. I tried the 1.1 version way to hard.. Have you bought Death Smiles 2?

I see.... thanks for clearing that up! I was playing it last night and thinking to myself: "I cant believe this is happening on xbox 360, with all its processing power and all."

I am sort of a gaming old fart so that I thought it was like back in the famicom/mega drive days where such slow-down and glitches happened frequently due to hardware limitations!

Also I must be going senile - I dont remember Death smiles 1 had this emulation....? It's over 1 year ago since I played it so please excuse my poor memory! :D

Yeah pre-ordered DSIIX from Playasia.. hopefully be here by the end of this week. Try arrange modes (not novice) on Mushi.. when you get the hang of the mode it isn't that bad (let me know your top scores.. mine on Arranhe original is.. 633,709,972)
I still can't beat boss 3 on 1.5 or BL modes on 1 credit.. :(

Currently getting my ass handed to me on Ketsui.. It's insanely hard, somwwhat unforgiving :S

Feel free to add me on XBL too.. AmidstStorm

I picked up DeathSmiles 2 on saturday, only had quick go on it but it seems easier than the first also the backgrounds are all in 3D.
Will try it out properly later on today hopefully :D

I might be wrong, but it's something along those lines. Like, the cave games aren't released on the best hardware so that this happens at times.
