I only play double play these days :D

Double-plays are fun. I wish more games would support the idea easily like Raiden 4 does. I tried it with Ketsui once a few months ago.... hit stage 3, ran into something stupid, didnt go back to it for awhile.... and the very first Dodonpachi which I nearly beat at the time, I could probably fully finish it now.

I dont see that many good doubleplays in videos or anything either. Usually it's just...... Ikaruga for some reason.... I really dont get why it's ALWAYS that game.

You know what guys? The more I think about the league idea, I think we should've made it an Xbox 360 shmup league. Who needs retro on a retro forum. pfft. :D

A surprisingly good list, yes.

....for a "dead" genre, hah.

ANyway as that list goes I'm missing Bullet Soul, the Otomedius games, Radirgy, Shooting Love, and Mamoru-kun. Oh, and the second Senko no Ronde.

......and I was gonna say something else here but I dont appear to actually be awake just yet.

The thing that impresses me is the fact the 360 catalogue of shooters is consistantly good, in fact there's only one game I'm not keen on, Strike Witches. The Saturn has a long catalogue of great shooters but some people forget about the stinkers on the system.

Yeah, I agree.

The only game I dont overmuch care for on the 360 as shmups go is ESPGaluda 2, actually, and that's mostly the main mode.... the actual Black Label mode is quite good even if it's a bit brain-melting to learn. Of course, that's also one of those pure scoring modes, and offers little survival challenge.

Strangely the port of Espgaluda 2 is one of my favourites, it's mad that they took one of the most accessible Cave shooters in Espgaluda and turbo charged it into a hardcore shooting fest for the sequel. They kind of did the reverse with Mushihimesama Futari. How Espgaluda 2 uses different kinds of bullet cancelling in the game modes really bakes my brain!

Being less 1337 on the old shmups, Mushi is definitely my favoured 360 Cave release. ESPgaluda also bakes my noodle.

Still would love Dangun Feveron to get a release though, I found it pretty accessible.

How about both? I mean, it's not like we couldn't squeeze two shmups a month in our schedules, considering we've probably all given a fair bit of time to whtever is going to be picked. I'm liking the idea of nominating Thunder Force 4 in the retro shmup league so that I can actually do well at something

By the way, TF4 I have no missed on normal in the past, just so you know.

Coincidentally, that's almost exactly the games on the list I do have.

Oh I liked it in CONCEPT.

In EXECUTION though.... ugh. I liked the first Galuda, but the second one, for me, wasnt fun anymore. For trying to get really GOOD scores, the game is *way* too strict and absurd about some things. And you often have to use goofy little "tricks" that are impossible to know in advance without someone showing you.... the first stage in particular is notorious for this. Want to get a really GOOD score on stage 1? Gotta know the magic trick to use at the start. And EVERY time I see it, it looks like a glitch to me.

The way the cancelling and all that works LOOKS fun, but I always quickly found that no matter what I did, I'd get like, a whole two seconds of being in that alternate mode, and then it'd shut off and i'd need about 20 squillion more gems and gold before I could get almost another second maybe. I often got the feeling that I'm missing something, but I usually got WAY too annoyed to actually care enough.

Alot of the same reasons why I hate DDP:DOJ, the only other Cave title I dont like. Except for Death Label mode on PS2. THAT, I liked. Played that absolutely to death, nearly beat it. A more-hyperactive-than-usual Hibachi is difficult to kill, in case you werent aware.

Dont like arcade mode in Galuda 2, but Black Label is utter insanity and one of the WIERDEST shmup experiences I've ever seen. Crash into bullets to make more bullets so that you can time-warp them into MORE bullets and cancel those so you can get invincibility to make MORE bullets and aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaghghghhg *splode*

Pretty crazy stuff, that. Fun once you get the hang of it. One of these days I need to go back to it.

Currently still yelling at Futari and some Ketsui.

Added your vote for TF4.

Have to say that 2 leagues might be a little too much to take for me as crazy as it sounds. I'm barely getting enough time in on Ketsui for AvsG challenge with Gmintyfresh.

We'll have to see how this league shapes up after the first game. It goes live in 11 days so i'm assuming people are happy with the current way it's shaping up. Noticed a member of the shmups forum has come over to this forum and signed up just to play, so welcome to him anyway if he's reading this thread.

If the league flops then, i'm all for a 360 exclusive league between this threads users. But if someone sets one up then i'll definitely play all the same of course :)

This wouldnt be a bad idea, I think, doing two of them.

That way if someone doesnt like one of the chosen games, they may like the chosen game for the other grouping, and dont have to just sit out of it and wait till next month.

Knocking on the door of 70million on Ketsui, starting to think that 100million might be possible! @Amidststorm

The true nature of Dodonpachi Saidaioujou seems to be unravelling: http://andriasang.com/comzpj/dodonpachi_maximum/

The game is for Windows phone and it appears to have 200 achievement points - a shoe in for an easy 360 XBL release I reckon.

Ooh hey, you're doing better than me in that one.

The fact that I point-blank ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING probably isnt helping. I dont know why I do that in these games.

In all honesty Ketsui's arcade mode, while great, REALLY tests my patience at times. It's really hard to say why. None of the OTHER shmups can do that, except occaisionally Eschatos.

On the note of Futari though....

....I swear, nobody currently on my friends list is ranked on this! Well, ok, not NOBODY, but I mean only a very few actually have any rankings.

Come on, does anyone else play this / have scores to show? I'm interested to see some. Mostly, Futari is one of my favorite shmups ever, so.... yeah, being able to compare scores some more in it would be super!

And I just noticed I appear to be ranked 71st for Ultra, because..... er..... I really dont know, I dunno why it's so high. I got squashed by the blasted squid at the end of stage 2, accursed thing. Score is 44,150,849.

@Smraedis

And I'm interested to hear what your God Mode score is, if you have one.... I was looking at the leaderboards to see where everyone is at for each mode, I didnt see you on there for that one though! Nobody ELSE seems to play that mode on my list, I'd sorta figured you'd be ranked somewhere on there  Oh, and very nice score for Arrange Ultra! I couldnt figure out what in the hell to DO in that mode, just total purple lunacy everywhere, and it's like, agh, what the heck am I supposed to be trying to DO here? My own score in that mode blows.

Anyway, just curious about all that.

I've been playing this way too much lately.
