So...... what exactly has been the problem with this game releasing over there?

Here in the states it came out...... er...... quite some time ago. QUITE some time ago.

Though I myself need a new copy because I only have the JP unit now.... keep meaning to place an order for that and Raiden 4 (bah! Stupid region locks!).

On the note of these imports, finally getting around to really starting on Under Defeat. Bloody brilliant game, really; absolutely loving it.

Stage 2 though is a freaking nightmare. If the devs wanted to create a stage JUST TO censored ME OFF, they went and did it because it's ALL GIANT FREAKING BOATS. If I'm gonna screw up, it's gonna be somewhere in the middle of that, or at the very end of the boss fight.

On the plus side, the scoring system in this game is such a blast.

The only annoyance is the lack of replays.

I've got a Jap copy myself and very lovely it is too - everything is in English!!

Basically the rights to publish the game have been owned by a couple of companies that have gone bust, this has meant that Raiden Figters has been in release hell for years (can't count the number of proposed release dates the game has had). Out of this fiasco it's not quite clear who owns the UK rights to publish the game so I'm convinced we'll never see it released. Now a German company called DTP recently aquired the rights to release a (PAL) version in that country. Luckily it's possible for other EU countries to order the game so effectively we'd have got a PAL version. Unfortunately DTP applied for bankrupcy protection recently so it looked like we were foiled yet again with a PAL release!

Well, Mushhime-sama, the original, on the 360 has finally come out.

Happy to say that it's quite a good port. The game is absolutely gorgeous, and everything handles just fine.

My only problem with it remains the same as always, which is the godawful scoring system. The stage design and bosses keep me interested though.

On the other hand.... it's a little on the easy side. Almost beat Original in one try, and that's with me spending much of the time in the top half of the screen. I recall Maniac not being much different in terms of difficulty.

Hadnt had a real go at either mode in years; my time with the iOS version has pretty much entirely been spent in Ultra (which I'll get to in this one soon enough).

Stage 2 is still awesome, stage 3 is still boring (even on Ultra this stage is easy), stage 4 is still ANNOYING, and the stage 3 boss can go jump off a cliff.

Havent tried the arrange mode yet, though I'd heard awhile ago that it was just the one from the PS2 game. Whatever that one was.

Not as exciting as some of their other releases (not for me anyway), but it's still highly recommended even so.

EDIT: Also, as much as I like Cave, I'd like to PUNCH whoever came up with the decision to put these on the 360 instead of the PS3. Punch them HARD. This controller is as godawful as it always was.

As I understand it althought the Arrange mode is based on the one found on the PS2 port it has been tweaked for this release. Anyway I've held out on getting it for various reasons. I hope I don't regret it because I would really like to play ver 1.5. It would be amazing if RSG picked it up.

....1.5?

*looks in case*

.....uuuuuuuuuuugh. I hadnt even noticed that. Them and their bloody DLC cards. I really wish they'd NOT do this. Just pack the damn modes into the actual disc like you SHOULD, so EVERYONE can play them, instead of just the earliest buyers. As I'm betting this card is only included on the first print run or something damn stupid like that, just like with the other ones that did this....

Though I have NO idea what's different about 1.5. Dont think I've ever played it.

I will say though, this is a REALLY good port job. I notice in particular the lack of real load times..... it lacks the "quick restart" option that I'm always yelling angrily about (WHY cant these devs put it in more than just ONE game? Argh!), but the lack of loadtimes somewhat makes up for it.

Well.

That was the fastest I've ever finished one of these.

Beat Original mode just now. Stage 5 was bloody EPIC. Entire stage, no bombs. NO BOMBS. (Used them on the boss though, oh yes).

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut,

because the 360 is ABSOLUTE FLAMING TRASH, it wouldnt save a replay because NETWORK BRAINFART!!!!!111. I should note that this brainfart happened at the VERY BEGINNING OF STAGE 1. In a PREVIOUS RUN. It also regained the connection quickly. A connection, I should note, that it DOESNT NEED FOR ANY CONCEIVABLE REASON WHATSOEVER DUE TO BEING A SINGLEPLAYER GAME. But if it does this EVEN ONCE, you *have* to exit the bloody mode, go all the way back to the main menu, and select it again, because the demonic thing is too bloody STUPID to.... you know, JUST FREAKING WORK in a sane fashion.

This completes my hatred for this accursed device. I think I can now place it as officially being worse than the Wii. ......I never thought I'd say that. I only still own the horrible thing because these bloody imports cost so much and because the emulator capable of running the original arcade versions is, frankly, a godawful emulator. And of course the emulator wouldnt have all of the additional modes.

Your issues you have with the 360 sound like you're talking about the PS3 to me, as these are the problems sonys machine causes me. Absolute piece of sh!t machine. Had one since 2007 and it just doesn't do it's job. Poor installation options, utter disgraceful Internet connections and constant updates to the point I rarely play a game because if I fancy a quick go at something online and I haven't played it in months, I could be waiting an hour for it to download 11 updates, then install the bloody updates, then lose my connection and it fails anyway. After owning all the Sony consoles since 1995, and many replacements due to them crapping out on me multiple times. On my 4th ps1, 3rd ps2 & 2nd ps3, oh and my psp doesn't play games anymore.. I won't be buying another Sony console, at least not on release anyhow. My ps3 is used to watch films nowadays if I can't be arsed to plug the actual blu ray player in or I'm using an SD card. I'd love my £440 back Sony. Though I guess it was worth it for uncharted 2 and heavy rain. Those experiences are worth the Agro I guess..

I know 360s are hardly reliable, but I own 2 And they are still going strong for me. Updates are lightning quick, installation is optional and fast, great online connections. I love the controller, though hated it at first and wanted to sell the system after the first weekends play. Plus the 360 has nearly 30 shmup Physical releases for it. Nuff said.

Dont get me wrong, I dont really care for the PS3 much either (definitely have had similar issues, but I dont use it enough to get too many of them). There are lots of times where I'm not really sure as to just WHY I have one, aside from LittleBigPlanet 1 and 2, which were the original reasons i bought the ridiculous thing. Not that I expected to love it or something, being that I LOATHED the PS2 (and still do).

The PS3 though hasnt (yet) earned enough anger from me to warrant me whacking it with something heavy. The 360 though surely has. As it is I jammed the thing under the bed after a good pummeling, so I dont have to look at it for a couple of weeks and thus dont get the urge to totally wreck it. I've had this issue with the replays and the godforsaken Live connection before this, a good number of times; this one was just the last straw.

And of course I hate that controller (I dont actually have any games that use the analog.... JUST the awful dpad).

The shmups are the only reason I havent A: sold it, or B: thrown it in a lake. .....they're also the only games I have for it, never liked it's selection. As such, doesnt get used much, though neither does the PS3.

Bloody current consoles. Idiotic devices, all 3 of them! I'll take the older cartridge-based systems or something like the Saturn over these any day. .....or just my PC / iPad.

I know I'm not one to talk, but I want to read your posts Misery, but they're so poorly written, and use caps far too often. It's painful to my eyes.

Yes I do tend to USE CAPSLOCK YELL A WHOLE LOT pretty often, usually for emphasis. Ooooooooold habit. A bit too ingrained to stop.

Though I shout at things IRL alot anyway, so, it's in character at least.

Nice, looks like it might have some unique features, hopefully it'll be as good as people say Eschatos is. Speaking of which only a few days until the wonder price version is out. With some luck play-asia will get it to me within the month.

As much as I've been wanting to see another shmup from Qute....

....this looks like the sort of thing NOT to pre-order until some reviews come in. Some of the screenshots look a bit..... off.

In particular, one that's on the shmup forums seems to show some sort of shop interface, it looks like the player buying weapons/items for the ship. .....that kind of idea rarely, if ever, works out well. It also looks like it might turn out to be another bizarro shmup/fighting-game combo, which..... ehhh. I'll pass, thanks. Games like that are rarely (read: never) much good without actual opponents, and if I want competition, I'll indeed play ACTUAL fighting games. Out of this genre.... I just want a damn shmup.

Feh. Will have to wait and see though. But this is looking to be one I wont buy.

Yep it certainly doesn't look as butt ugly as Eschatos!! Eschatos is great mate I'm sure you're going to love it, fingers crossed for a speedy delivery

You know me I'll blindly buy it no matter what!! It certainly looks more polished than Eschatos from the limited screenshots we've seen of it. I was really concerned when I saw the cover art that the game was going to be some stupid character driven shooter without space ships but I was releaved when I saw the first screen shots. I was puzzled a little by the VS screen could be just a player vs the level boss screen?
