Got a new iPad & what did I buy as a first purchase? Miner 2049'er of course :) Touchscreen controls are playable enough, although you can't beat the feeling of actual buttons/joystick for this type of game.

Yeah its funny when you have this hi-tec bit of equipment and you use it to play games like that ! I paid out the 'huge' amount of 69p to unlock the original version, i play it with the touch screen controls, not bad at all. Glad they included the original just as well as the revamped version.

My understanding is this will be rectified. Lots of changes coming to iGamer over the coming months, actually. (Under eight quid for a year right now, if anyone fancies subscribing, too.)

Blimey that sounds cheap! Might have a look later. Do you write for it Craig?

Didnt start using Newstand for a while, couldnt get rid of the icon so i thought I'll have a look. Must admit i love it now

Got a few i regularly look at...

Star Wars Insider (ahem !), use it mostly for compilation issues.
Lowdown - Now this is free, nice app reviews and stuff, been reading every issue, picked up a few gems i didnt know about before.
Tap! - Monthly iOS magazine, do enjoy it but i must admit i prefer just games/games/games not reviews for other stuff
iPhone Life - Checked out one issue of this, not too bad.
Retro Gamer - Normally buy some of the compilations for this as its handy to have them on the ipod.
Apps magazine - Again i like the 'best of' compilations for this.

I'm totally used to moving around the pages, double tapping to zoom in and pan around etc.

Cant wait for iGamer to be universal. Read that on the ipad at the moment (and just subscribed), great to read every month, again found the odd gem which is useful

Welcome my friend ;)

I was the same as you last year, thought 'no buttons?', nah wont bother giving this device a try. Was totally wrong ! Love it, got about 600 games installed on my ipod, so many great ones.

Have a look at this site, sale on lots of popular games until June 1st...

http://www.becausewemay.com/ios.html

Some very good ones on there, check out Edge and Edge Extended, great isometric 'retro-ish' type games. Every wednesday at midnight theres a fair few new releases, you get games released before/after those dates but Apple refresh their top sellers list at midnight on wednesday so thats when new games tend to come out (As then they might be top of the list). Its exciting seeing some of the titles come out weekly.

Theres a lot of great platformers on iOS, check out Storm in a Teacup, please check out Swordigo (Zelda-ish platformer), amazing value when most of these games are a quid or two. Also Paper Monsters, gorgeous looking platformer.

Worth going through this whole thread as well as a lot of the games we've probably raved about are probably on sale now (or even free).

I now get a lot of itunes vouchers online on ebay, some great deals to be had, i get one a month from this guy...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/mcccix/m.html ... ksid=p3686

Eg £30 itunes voucher for £22.49. The saving might not sound huge but saving £7.50 means thats 15 or so games. You basically get emailed a voucher code to use, used them about 8 times so far and everytime its been fine. Worth saving a bit of money.

Theres a HUGE variety of games out there, worth checking out websites (or some of the iOS mags in WHSmiths), slingshot racing is cool as its very unique, but theres also a lot of 'micro machine' type racers out there. Just so many different types and mostly at cheap prices. I thought i would hate touch screen controls but i'm so used to them now, play a lot of platformers on my ipod, love it.

Also worth searching for certain terms in the app store, eg LCD brings up quite a few 'game and watch' type of games which are decent for a laugh. I regularly type in vector as i'm a huge fan of Vectrex style games (Space Junk is great and infinity field).

Edit - Just come out today - Razor Salvation (not working on an ipod touch 4th gen yet , waiting for an update)....

http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=136366 - JUST 69p ! Looks like a cross between Operation Wolf/Cabal type of game

Also please check out Air Mail - http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=135704

Amazing looking game, bit like Pilot Wings on the ole Nintendo. Both links above have youtube videos so you can check out the gameplay. Worth picking up Razor Salvation as its on an intro price of 69p

Yes—I'm the Games Editor for both Tap! and iGamer. The mag's monthly, so the current sub works out at about 60p per issue—and we've exciting plans for the coming months.

As for Because We May, I would recommend the following without hesitation: Osmos, World of Goo HD, Eliss, Superbrothers, Waking Mars, Trainyard, Edge Extended, Anomaly Warzone Earth HD, Zen Bound 2, Puzzlejuice, Match Panic (doubly fantastic if you've an iPad iCade), iBlast Moki 2 HD, Saucelifter, Forget-Me-Not and Magnetic Shaving Derby.

Please please tell me asap when iGamer is universal and read on an ipod. Do love iGamer but just tend to personally use my iphone/ipod more as i work away a fair bit. Hope iGamer does well, really like it so far

Couple of games came out a day early yesterday...

Mega Run
http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=135910

Decent endless runner, plays very well and looks good. Its FREE, there are of course in app purchases but so far i havent had to buy any, so youre not 'forced' to get them. Nice game

Razor: Salvation

Pretty good 'Operation Wolf/Cabal' type of game, youre in a fixed position and can rotate 360 degrees, different weapons to use against the aliens. Intro price of 69p, well worth picking up before it goes up in price. Looks great

iPhone 4S

(I now have one of these as a replacement for my iPhone 4 which had developed a problem)

Question!

Which games really take advantage of whatever extra power the 4S has over older iPhones?

The only extra fun I've discovered with the 4S so far is the amusement value in how Siri responds when told to go forth and multiply!

Bought this yesterday. A solid effort and totally worth the bargain price. :D

Robot Gladi8or,

Just released for a 69p introductory price offer. It's basically an Infinity Blade clone in a space marine setting. Lots of fun from what I've played so far!

Scramblies,

A really fun Peggle variant with high production values that's currently free. :D

Regarding my iPhone 4S unanswered question (!) I've since played Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing and the game's noticeably smoother relative to my recollection of playing it on my old iPhone 4. One slight negative I've noticed about the 4S though is that the rear panel sure gets hot when playing graphically intensive games and when downloading numerous large memory capacity games from the App Store! :?
