I own a 1st gen iPad and we have just gotten a couple of the new iPads in the office, and I am glad I didn't buy one myself. Yeah the screen is nice, but not that amazing. And the weight is probably what bothers me the most. It weights almost as much as the old one and I would defiantly want a lighter one. So I am also waiting for the next batch, where they have hopefully gotten the weight down a bit more.

A few of the better quality games I've very recently downloaded on special offer (free or 69p),

JAZZ: Trump's Journey - a beautifully made platformer
SpellTower - yet another well made word puzzler
Kroco Gems - a more than worthy Tetris variant
Golf Extreme! - if you enjoy the flick footy games then get this in already!
Pucca Golf - absolutely top drawer cartoony golf game with excellent game mechanics
Oven Break Innerspace - another good quality endless runner game with a charm of its own
Temple Run - superb into-the-screen/3D endless runner game that I'm now hooked on!

Half-price for not much longer, while the dev attempts to climb the charts. I highly recommend you all buy SpellTower right now (for 69p!), unless you can't stand word games. It's essentially Boggle smashed into Tetris and then dipped in beautiful design, and it's by far the finest pure word game on the system. In fact, in terms of all word games, only Quarrel Deluxe could potentially beat it in a fair fight.

Two of the dev's other games—Bit Pilot and Halcyon for iPad are also excellent.

possibly picking up an older ipod touch 2nd hand and fairly cheap - do the majority of games run on older spec touches (sorry seller hasn't given me the exact info yet) - so just wanted to get a general feel if it's worth it?

Afaik the Cave shmups don't work on said device. Don't know about the rest though. I'd imagine there may be some performance issues with some games too.

Depends how old the iPod touch is, too. Which generation? Which spec? Bear in mind the 8 GB model has also often been a generation behind tech-wise, too.

think the best thing might be to borrow it off the seller (he's a friend) and try out a few games, see what works from the recommendations on this list.

^ curious what you said about the 8GB versions, never knew that, but hand to know

Actually, I misremembered about the current-gen, but what happened previously is Apple had the 8/16/32 GB models, and these were all upgraded for the second-gen (released in 2008). None of these models runs iOS 5. The third-gen (32/64) appeared in 2009, and the 8 GB model was still the second-gen iPod touch. The third-gen models will run iOS 5. The fourth-gen then appeared in 2010, introduced the camera and also added the Retina display.

My advice: unless this iPod is VERY cheap or affordable and a fourth-gen, I wouldn't bother.

Hey Pinball fans! Retro Pinball is on offer, only 69p! And it's universal.

I played the shareware version of this (android table only) for hours on end on an old DOS PC, and it's been ported across really faithfully, check it out.

Capcom is releasing another iOS game next week: marvel vs capcom 2. Out of all it's back catalogue this must be one that has no chance In working well on touch screen devices, it's an insanely fast paced fighter that requires precision controls to unleash combos and such. I can't see it being that good but I'll still buy it being the capcom shill I am  as for content, all 56 characters are included in the port

Presumably its aimed at the iCade owners where there's a fighting chance of playing it properly.

Spectrum 100 GREATEST HITS app, which launched yesterday, is a penny under £6 for the iPhone version, and is based heavily on the previously dubbed Elite range, although won’t have additional purchases down the line – it’s a one off thing.

Games include Chuckie Egg, Jet Set Willy, Manic Miner and a load of others – I don’t have a handy list of every game included but it looks like all the games from the previous IAPs, so if you’ve not bought any yet this is a real saving.

Think I've payed enough out for all the other Elite stuff so I'll pass. The Midway app now offers iCade support making a massive difference to playabiltity IMO.

There's a free download version of this that comes with 1 game, Bruce Lee, so you can try it out first (if you've not downloaded any of the previous Elite collections). 6p per game is hard to argue with for the full one off bundle though.
