X-com Apocalypse

Postby HalcyonDaze on Sun Jan 01, 2006 4:00 pm

Anybody know if this game is any good ?

Somebody on the old retro-gamer forum tipped me off about this game earlier this year, but I have not seen it in any of the shops.

I have always loved the turn based strategy games, from Rebel Star Raiders - Laser Squad - and on to the X-com games.

Any info on this new X-com game would be great.

Cheers.

I'm pretty sure that the new X-Com games have nothing to do with the gollop Brothers any more. Check out Rebelstar Tactical Command on the GBA instead. I'm playing it at the moment and it's brill.

I believe they only had involvement with the first two X-Com games with Microprose before leaving to found another studio.

X-Com Apocolypse is not a new game, it is the third X-Com game and the last one the Gollop brothers worked on. It was quite a good game but a bit different from the other 2. Worth scouring ebay for if it even works on Windows XP.

Fans of Laser Squad, X-Com etc should check out

This is an amazing game that I have been playing for years and highly recommend it. It is a totally free trial so worth having a go!

Also worth checking out are the recent games UFO: Aftermath and UFO: Aftershock. Spiritually, they are the 'next gen' of the X-COM series, and well worth the time and effort. Not the most attractive PC game out there, but the experience more than compensates.

Official site here:

Even better, the games are selling for the proverbial song on Amazon.

I should have stated that the game I plugged is created by the gollops themselves and is the only true successor to XCOM

I finished XCOM:Apocalypse and I have to say, that besides Jagged Alliance 2 it's one of the best games I ever played on the PC. GET IT!!!

As for UFO:Aftermath, this one was really bad, I have UFO:Aftershock now, and I'll give it a try next week.

And if you like those turn based combat games, get Silent Storm, it's really good, but also tough to play, not for beginners.
