A few days ago I was going online with either TvsC or SSBB, can't remember which and my wii suddenly made this loud vibrating sound which eventually died down abit, but I had to take the disc out to stop it completely. It still happens now and again when you insert a disk albeit not as loud, though the Wii does seems to hum a little louder since, especially with Metroid Prime 3 where the humming is loudest and a bit eratic.

After searching a bit online I found this is quite common with MP3. Also I've seen youtube "fixes" involving tightening/loosening some of the disk drive screws. Anyone had a go at this? My wii is old and out of warranty so I might as well have a go before sending it to nintendo for reapir (if it needs it).

I have the same issue with my console. I just tend to ignore it as once I'm playing the game I don't really notice it. The weird thing is its completely random when it does do it. For example on TvC it will sometimes make the louder humming noise and yet other times when I play it it doesn't make the noise :?

Yeah mine seems a bit inconsistant, not too loud either now, I might have a look inside and see if there's anything obviously causing it. If nothing else my Wii could probably do with a clean, I might invest in an oficial wii cleaner kit thing too, couldn't hurt.

If I get the loud sound again I'll definately see email Nintendo and see what they recomment because it can't be normal.

Also can anyone reccomend a good replacement wii sensor bar?

To preserve the official sensor bar I used a 3rd party one when I take the Wii to my friends but it's just died on me (it recognises buttons being pressed but there's no cursor on screen so I can't get past the menu screen and do anything).

I've heard nothing but bad about wireless ones so I'm just looking for a cheap but reliable wired one, any suggestions? I seems to recall hearing good things about one by iBox I think if that's the one I'm thinking of.

Has anyone got Sega/Sonic Racing? Is it really any different to Mario Kart (aside form the obvious character differences)?

cant really speak for the control method
but on the xbox 360 version there is no brake what so ever there is a dedicated drift button and you have to drift through
the corners to get an extra boost of speed
once your used to that its great fun
a totally mad game
its like a combination of mario kart and sonic R

add in a mad commentator the ability to use your avatar\wii character and unlockables and you got a great mario kart clone thats every bit as crazy fun as its inspiration
hey wait ! i got a new complaint !

Actually I just thought, as the problem is an exposed and slightly broken wire, could I just strip the wire and solder it where the wire has broken, then electrical tape over the solder? Does anyone know if that would work?

So far I've manged to "splint" the wire to hold it together but a more longterm solution would be nice.

Picked up Dewy's Adventure (after ummming and ahhing about it for ages), Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition and Teenage Mutant Nina Turtles: Smash Up earlier on for a fiver each. So far only tried Dewy's Adventure, which is actually a really good little game :) Very similar to the likes of Super Monkey Ball (in that you tilt the whole stage around to move Dewy) and also as fiendishly tricky as that game as well. But not in a bad way.

Blimey, another one! There are quite a few out there - the zapper, the venom light blaster, the Nyko perfect shot, the handcannon, the buckshot. And different games seem to react better/worse to different guns.
I really don’t like using the remote, so I’ll probably go for the handcannon and hope for the best. I might get the Nyko as well later on.

I've got one of those shotguns and it is well cool. The pump-action reload bit operates the 'A' button on top also which is cool. My only issue with it is that the face buttons on the top of the Wii remote are covered over meaning you can't use grenades in Overkill for example. It's probably best used for HotD 2&3 Return tbh since you just need to shoot. Plus, it helps recreate the feel of the arcade cab with the big shotguns (though it still isn't the same).

Funnily enough, I have this problem and it began after I bought and started playing SSBB. I remember at the time of launch that the dual-layer DVD was unreadable by some Wii's that had a bit of dirt inside the drive or something (basically a very sensitive disc). It sounds awful now, a really loud grinding sound that makes it essential to turn the volume up on the telly a notch. Mine also crashes when playing GC games too for some reason so it's no longer backwards compatible :( .

If anyone is looking alternative racing game that isn't Mario Kart, May I recommend "Need For Speed: Nitro"

The game takes a more arcade approach to the series, and is a very fun racing game with friends (No Online, for you Wi-Fi junkies)

The game also has some additional modes like your obligatory campaign and Car modification modes, but a nice little feature is what happens with the tracks, in that depending on the type of cars you choose, the race track you selected with change to correspond with the cars.

Sure it may not be the simulation style of the other NFS games, but this shouldn't miss a beat, since you can pick it up for around a tenner.

Also, this game is the base of Need For Speed:Hot Pursuit for the Wii. But seeing how much they care for this version, it's best to stick with this.

That doesn't good, I couldn't put up with that at all. Did you get your Wii serviced to play SSBB? I believe they did it for my wii (owned by my friend at the time) free, regardless of whether it was in warranty or not, as it was Nintendo's fault. If your's hasn't been serviced to play dual discs and you've been playing SSBB they may agree to service your Wii for free. Worth asking.

Mine isn't too loud but I did email Nintendo UK to see what thought and they said I'd have to send my Wii in for assesment. I've ordered the Wii cleaner kit (a prudent investment at £5 I thought, my Wii is a bit dirty  ) so I'm gonna see if that does anything first, couldn't hurt anyway. Mines out of warranty so there's no rush to send it away.

Mine played SSBB out of the box - didn't need to get it cleaned first. Just seemed a big coincidence that the noise started after using this game which was notable for compatibility problems.

The noise is something I'm not bothered about tbh but the failure to read 'cube discs IS. I've got loads of GC games that I'm desperate to play but I've got no room to set the machine up separately to the Wii at the moment :( . I could send it away but it's one of those hassles that I know I'd never get around to doing.

I'd just like an answer as to why GC discs crash really - surely there is one floating around on the internet somewhere?
