Marking post millstones by remarking about them is also silly...

I finally got myself a working Megadrive. (actually I bought a megadrive with a MegaCD, but the megaCD seems dead). It came with Moonwalker - so that'll be the first game I take out for a spin

Just remember - if its only the first game you play - dont let it put you off!!!

Back in the days I got mine with Altered Beast - if you can play that you can play nearly anything.

Moonwalker isnt awful but you do need more games.

I have yet to play Moonwalker, but I agree with what shiftytigger says. Particularly about Altered Beast :P

As cliche as it may sound, get yourself a copy of Sonic 2, it's dirt cheap and common as all hell. It is also an excellent introduction to the system.

just check the recent top 10 mega drive games thread and you canbot go far wrong.

at the time moonwalker was great, so much better than the arcade version.

I will say that Altered Beast was the only game I had for 7 weeks - had to make the best of it and think i played every possible configuration / difficulty just to keep it going. Those hidden options to change the beast for each level added something to it. There are some things good about it - I absolutely love the transformation animations.Possibly because theyre a bit trashy / flashy and over the top.The arcade machine was hardly the best either , so the MD version was a good translation of something that wasnt good - but a good translation nevertheless.

Moonwalker isn't a bad game , its just victim to bad ageing.

Could have been worse - could have got Dark Castle free with it...

^ is that the same Dark Castle that used to be a decent mac game?

first charity shop find for the MD is Ayrton Senna's Super Monaco GPII - hope the game is better than the awful artwork on the cover

It's okay. Hasn't aged well but still a bit of fun. It was one of my first games when I re-bought my Megadrive as an adult.

As for Dark Castle, that's exactly what it is. While I haven't played either version, I have heard that the Megadrive version is atrocious. The Angry Video Game Nerd slams it, in quite an entertaining video actually.
