good advice - I'll have a haggle on the price - or maybe they'll throw in some games. (it's the MK1 version of both by the way).

I know I mentioned this in another thread, but its interesting for MD collectors. Working on a new MD book in full colour:

Few sample pages are up and its due out this July :)

So I picked up a decent bargain on eBay, a Sega Megadrive One and 18 games (including Kid Chameleon, Aladdin, Lemmings, the Sonics, Castle of Illusion, Micro Machines etc) for just £25 including postage. However, it comes minus a cable to connect it to a TV. What would be my options regarding connecting it to an LCD TV? What should I be looking out for?

An RF lead

Or make your own RGB lead?

It's yet to arrive - so what kind of connection am I looking for to actually fit into the Mega Drive One as opposed to the television?

Just go onto Ebay and search Mega Drive RGB Scart - don't expect wonders on a large LCD TV screen though

It involves opening up your MD then removing the metal shielding, finding a specific chip (the one with a semi-circular notch in it) and after locating one of the pins connecting it to the motherboard, de-activating said pin either by unsoldering or clipping it.
If done correctly, it removes the weird lines noticeable when using RGB, particularly in large areas of blue.
I did it to my MD a few weeks back, the difference is striking.

I'll put a link to a proper how-to guide later.

That looks really interesting. How regularly would new books be released?

Its a nice idea, but can it really compete with the free web resources?

I love mega drive more than any other system, but do i really want to see 4 screen shots and 50 words about a game? Those 50 words are not even a "review" but more a basic overview in the example pages.

I would much rather a book focus on the best and most fondly remembered games in MUCH more detail, with interviews from the designer - tell me something i don't know that's interesting.

Just not for me i'm afraid. Good luck though.

That "pin 6" mod put slightly better than I managed:

Scroll down a bit till you see the nice big piccy of the MD's PCB.

I think it's aimed for people who want a reference guide not a review one, it looks ok, though going by the sample pages I'm not keen on the colour use and would like things like cartridge size and release dates of all regions to be added, the same for the box covers.

Cartridge sizes would all be the same surely. Apart from the extra tall EA ones. :P

What a silly way to mark 500 posts.
