Just got Kid Icarus Uprising - that's tonight sorted then :) Really looking forward to properly playing it.
Anyone else getting it this week?

I am. I've had it on preorder for ages and am glad to see its finally getting released. Its been getting fairly decent reviews as well which is nice to hear, are the on rails sections similar to Star Fox 64? Aa judging from the videos it sorta looks that way,

Yeah sort of - it's kind of the opposite, instead of locking-on to enemies if you stop firing for a second you 'charge' your shot for a bigger blast or you can strafe with the auto-fire. But largely it's like a fantasy Star Fox but on crazy drugs - it's mental but in a good way :) It looks arguably better than any other 3DS game as well, really gorgeous graphics (and sound for that matter). It's got a LOT of content, should keep the completionist player going for a while!

I've got it preordered but won't be playing it for ages due to the Vita taking up all my time . :D

And to provide some much needed balance, I just read a couple of reviews of the game...

... if your handheld game needs a static add-on in order to make it less unbearable to play ... you might have a problem.

There's so much to love about Uprising, and that's why it's so distressing that over 50 percent of it is actively unpleasant to play.

Due to the awkward button layout, it's almost essential that the included stand be used... due to the static position of the system, the 3D will likely need to be turned off completely. I find myself often repositioning the 3DS in my hands to keep the 3D focused, but when it's fixed in place on a desk, I have to stay hunched over to get it to look good. It's easier to just switch it off.

... due to more direct control over Pit, Uprising attempts to squeeze more actions out of the limited input, and the result is an absolute mess.

... "walking" consists of this awful hopping motion that's about as unwieldy as a survival horror protagonist from two generations ago.

... all I can do is marvel at the arrogance of a studio that was so committed to a failed idea that it would rather mold plastic stands to try and reduce the torture rather than actually fix the underlying problem of a game that simply does not work on the platform it was designed for.

The AR mode is worth using once then never again.

If only someone had stopped and wondered if the need for a 3DS stand was a clear indication that the concept was broken, maybe things could have been different.

... using the stand was the only way to tone down the game from being excruciating to play to merely uncomfortable. It does cut down on the game’s portability, but it’ll probably save people money on ice packs and splints.

The horrible controls get in the way of what’s actually a really good game.

I’m looking forward to doing more with Pit in the future, just not like this.

How about you quit making this forum an extension of your day job?

I don't really need to defend myself in a '3DS games discussion thread' where we were having a discussion about a new 3DS game.
I've been coming to this forum longer than you, before I had any such job. Why come into a thread about something you clearly despise just to be a troll? I just think it's petty to be honest. It's not exactly a 'balanced' post just posting negative review feedback.

* Did I challenge you to 'defend' yourself? No, I did not.

* Yes, a "discussion" on a public forum is exactly that. It is something that includes different sides to an argument, i.e. not just the typically sycophantic contributions you make on this forum about the games published by your employer.

* So what if you've been on this forum longer than I have. Are there prizes and special rewards for long time members or is your point a moot one?

* I posted the quotations I did in order to provide some much needed balance as I had already stated. If you cared to actually read all I had quoted not all of it was negative. Overall, yes it was, but when seeing you post such guff as this...

Mootown wrote:...It's got a LOT of content, should keep the completionist player going for a while!

... which reads just like a Nintendo PR piece you really shouldn't act so surprised.

Talking of you treating this forum as an extension of your day job with much, but not all, of what you post it comes as little surprise. What's your job title again? Trade Marketing Manager at Nintendo, isn't it?

It has got a lot of content. I don't come on here to lie. I come on here to talk with people I've been talking to for years, and was replying to a question as it happens - My post was chatting to Shadowman, not a headline PR piece. What do you want me to do - not say what I think? You don't have to pick up on a little point, turn it into something it's not and then go on about it. Honestly, you need to relax and not go out of your way to try and make people look stupid by analysing everything and quoting the entire internet.

* I never once denied or suggested the game doesn't feature plenty of content
* I've never once said or even implied you "come on here to lie" and nor would I as you clearly do not
* Like it or not, some of your posts about Nintendo read disturbingly similar to PR pieces
* If you posted in a similar manner about other companies as you do about your employer then there obviously wouldn't be an issue
* Er, you are the one hellbent on turning this into a flame war. I copy/pasted some review comments from two different sources to balance your usual gushing hyperbole regarding a game published by your employer. Rather than choosing to debate the matter in a mature fashion you posted the following response,
Mootown wrote:... Stock being a c**k all the time just for the sake of it.

... and after having stooped to making that ad hominem attack you now have the temerity to claim it is me who is in the wrong. Makes sense!

You've clearly missed all the time when I've been excited about other games recently on this very forum, such as games on Vita, Journey on PS3, many import shooters on 360. The reason for this is I own pretty much all systems and like games. The fact I like Nintendo games as well seems to be the only thing that bothers you. I put that down to biased blindness so I'll let it slide. I'm not going to avoid talking about things I like just because of your opinion on the reason you think I'm doing it. I like games, I like Nintendo games. Get over it and move on.

Ps - in your completely unbiased post of review feedback, I like how you highlighted in bold all the negative comments to ensure it was definitely a balanced post.

What, you mean like the post in the Vita thread where you couldn't resist chiming in to slam Ridge Racer while at the same time bigging up Ridge Racer 3D for the 3DS? Yes, I thought so.

You're still not getting it. I couldn't give a damn whether you like games published by any or all publishers. To repeat once more, the manner in which you heap praise on Nintendo games would be more palatable if you consistently did the same for other games on a frequent basis too. You work as a Marketing Manager for Nintendo so you are evidently the one here suffering with "blindness" if you're still failing to understand what the issue is when you post so frequently in the manner that you do about Nintendo products on this public forum.

Wrong yet again. I have, iirc, already twice pointed out that I posted those review quotes as a balance to the typically gushing praise you heaped on the latest Nintendo offering. If you think that is the same as saying that the quotes in themselves were balanced then that's most unfortunate for you.
