If I'd quoted some comments from Official Nintendo Magazine (review score 91%, shocker!) then I'm sure all would have been fine!

The IGN review was interesting, saying it was a great game with Sh!te controls, I completely believe it. The little I played at Eurogamer was awkward at best...

I suppose it's very personal then, whether you love the setting & characters enough to ignore the lame control setup.

Just goes to show the stupidity of not including a 2nd analogue slider, that's all it would have taken to make it play nicely

DreamcastRIP wrote:What, you mean like the post in the Vita thread where you couldn't resist chiming in to slam Ridge Racer while at the same time bigging up Ridge Racer 3D for the 3DS? Yes, I thought so.

You're still not getting it. I couldn't give a damn whether you like games published by any or all publishers. To repeat once more, the manner in which you heap praise on Nintendo games would be more palatable if you consistently did the same for other games on a frequent basis too. You work as a Marketing Manager for Nintendo so you are evidently the one here suffering with "blindness" if you're still failing to understand what the issue is when you post so frequently in the manner that you do about Nintendo products on this public forum.

I'm glad you read the Vita post and understood it so well. Especially as I was 'chiming in' even though I'd been involved in all the Vita discussions since it began due to me owning one. You might want to check further on in the thread where I explain what I meant as you didn't seem to get me - I was saying the 3DS Ridge Racer was too long (and as such is boring at the end) but the Vita one goes to the other extreme and has pretty much no career mode. As I OWN both of them I think I'm pretty much in a good position to voice my opinion, I was hardly 'bigging up' the 3DS version. As far as I know, you don't own either?

I do heap praise on other games, quite a lot in fact. Thunderforce, Streetfighter, Journey, Head over Heels, Wizball etc have all been generously praised, in fact recently I was talking about how good Gravity Rush is on Vita. Funny that.

Let's be honest here - you don't like the 3DS console, you have little interest in owning one. Yet as soon as you saw I had posted a comment in a 3DS thread you popped in to post your wonderful knowledge on the subject by going on a couple of websites and quoting them. As it happens I thought that starting a discussion in a 3DS games discussion thread on a game due out this week was a good thing. I also was asked what the game was like by Shadowman, I though replying to him would be ok. Obviously not. It's now turned into the usual derailment.

Maybe you should try having your own opinion instead of finding it on the internet. I've played Kid Icarus. I wanted to talk about it with other like-minded people. You've managed to derail that, well done. It must be awesome being you. Let's be honest, if I was trying to big-up Nintendo there's better places to do it than on a retro gaming forum. I've half a mind to not post on here anymore because it seems pointless to like things as it's clearly cooler to find negative comments and post links to them.

I like to think of it as strongly worded typing.

This is a great point DCRip. Why do you feel the need to add balance to a discussion you are not even part of? Play the game yourself and then put up your own opinion rather than someone else's. There is nothing wrong with not liking something but you just seem to try to pick holes in anything for no real reason.

I've just had a blast on the first stage - to be honest as I'm left handed I need to use the circle pad pro and it makes it quite heavy work (you basically hold the entire weight of the 3DS in your 'controlling' hand and use the stylus to aim) so I've broken out the stand which helps. But then I have a rather ridiculous looking 3DS - blue console in black circle pad pro resting on the stand! I'm going to try a few different conrol methods as the actual game itself is really really good but I haven't tried all the different configurations yet to settle on the one I want to use.
What's impressing me the most at the moment is the sound - the 3DS throws the sound out all over the place so it sounds excellent. (it helps the music is epic and filmic)

I think the game wil be great as long as people find a control set-up they are comfortable with - it takes some getting used to.

Being left handed is the one thing giving me issues with this game, too. But I figure I can use the 3D despite my astygmatism so why let cack-handedness get in the way?

How accurate do you need to be with the stylus? Is the aiming pixel perfect? Also, surely whichever hand you use you have to take the weight of the console in the other?

Yeah - but for us lefty's using the circle pad pro it's even heavier to take the weight, this is why I've employed the stand! The aiming is actually really smooth with the stylus, you can switch the sensitivity up so it moves faster as well. I tried using my thumb on the touchscreen but it's nowhere near as responsive as the stylus is.

No, it is not a great point at all.

Why do I feel the need to add balance in such instances as this? I thought that should have been abundantly clear to everyone already to be honest but it seems not. Mootown's job in teh real world is working as a Marketing Manager for Nintendo. Time after time he posts gushing hyperbole about whatever console or game Nintendo are pushing.

It appears he's using this public forum as an extension of his day job to help hype and promote the Nintendo brand. Yes, he enjoys some games from other companies too but very seldom will you see him heap anywhere near the same degree of praise on such games. Yes, there are exceptions but those games usually tend to be ancient retro titles. Seriously, just go read through some of the threads here and it's as clear as day.

Most folk who enjoy any particular game commonly stick to describing why they enjoy it. When Mootown discusses the latest Nintendo game releases it often reads like a slightly reworded PR statement designed to promote said game. The difference in tone and use of language is stark.

Do I have an issue with him enjoying Nintendo games?
Not at all.

Do I have an issue with him discussing his enjoyment of Nintendo games?
Not at all.

Do I have an issue with him consistently posting gushing hyperbole almost exclusively about Nintendo games and consoles which frequently appear as though he's attempting to dupe us all by passing off marketing PR statements as genuine critical observation free from corporate bias/influence?
Absolutely.

If the guy just come clean by admitting to his not so hidden agenda then there'd be no issue. People could then choose to accept his posts on this forum for what they are, i.e. thinly disguised marketing hype from a Nintendo Marketing Manager solely intended to help spread the word about Nintendo's latest products. Whether he acts the way he does out of treating the forum as an extension of his day job, to impress his bosses or because he's paid to do so is of course unclear.

As it stands, he's seemingly intent on denying any ulterior motive and is consequently treating everyone on this forum as a bunch of mugs. Maybe if he listed the fact he's a Marketing Manager for Nintendo in his sig then everyone, especially the newer members, would be better informed of his status and then be able to decide whether to put any stock in his utterances of how amazing Nintendo's latest and upcoming offerings are.

You are aware I've only worked there 6 months? Do you seriously think I started an account here 5 years ago just on the assumption I might have a job at a publisher in 5 years and need to promote to retro gamers?

You might want to check around the time of 3ds launch when I still loved Nintendo games. Maybe give your trolling some perspective.

You stay here and enjoy thinking you speak for the entire forum as their voice. My opinions are my own, not those of my employer or the Internet (unlike yourself)

I won't be returning. Congratulations, you've managed to get rid of another member. One day maybe there will just be you on here just slating yourself as no-one else will be left.
