Don't get me wrong slacey I think gaming on phones is terrible, touch screens are just not suited to arcade games, but it seems that the majority of people these days disagree with me.

The only think I use my phone for is calling, texting and facebook. I don't even think I have a single game on it. If I want to take a portable gaming device anywhere with me then my Dingoo fits very nicely in even the smallest pocket.

Yes, the games aren't great and I don't like the touch screen - although I have a few games, Angry Birds was a God send in the que for Santa on Saturday morning . . . but, yes, you're right - the world seems to love them as a gaming media. . .

Not tried the Dingoo, as I have a hacked PSP - which I've really enjoyed retro gaming on.

I'm surprised the Vita isn't being released before Christmas. Who's going to spend that kind of money just after Christmas? Certainly not parents looking to get their kids something "new" - christmas would have been ideal for them.

I've got a PSP but next year I'm going to get myself another (secondhand) 2000 version when prices fall. I think it's a cracking machine for retro and for newer games.

3DS as soon as there is a redesign. Hopefully by then it will be hacked too so I can remove the region lock.

Vita, eventually. Nothing on there so far that I really want.

Which will be success? Both hopefully.

I bought a PSP for £60 the other month, from Gamestation. I'm talking preowned specifically.

Yes. I have just recently read Prelude To Foundation. Just restarting the Foundation books this weekend.
Oh, and I quite agree.

I own a PSP and DS - personally wont invest in a 3ds as i find '3d' a lie and far too gimmicky.Thats not to say,as a retro fan, that I may not invest at a later date.

As for Vita, when it drops to a price point I can live with , software allowing I will probably go there too. I would just prefer to hang fire on both.

PSP has some fantastic stuff available - enjoying Vagrant story and Pinball fantasies even a year after downloading , as well as God of War which I think is a great game.

I gave up brand loyalty in favour of enjoying multi format gaming experiences and because I had left the schoolyard.

People will go where the games of interest take them, not where playground comparisons herd them.

As for any console being a 'failure' I think we are less likely to see failure in the portable market when both brands have a firm fanbase and portable gaming is very popular. The difference is the age marketing,PSP is more 'grown up' , DS/3DS is perceived as for the younger market. There are many relative 'failure' consoles out there , it doesnt mean they are rubbish or unpopular. Look at the Dreamcast.

I for one enjoy both equally for different reasons - I wanted a 3DS for SSFIV but didnt find the '3D' effect pleasant even when switched off.Even more bizarre when the game is presented in a semi 3 dimensional graphical format anyway, without the lenticular hologram effect.

I will wait for both consoles to drop to my levels or appear as my current ds/psp did (brand new at a very cheap price in cash converters)

Just in case you weren't aware buddy you can switch off the isometric viewpoint and turn 3d completely off on sfiv to make it look pretty close to the arcade version - the isometric view and the 3d spoil that particular game IMO. It doesn't need either.

I like the fact that the three current gen consoles have all done relatively well, something hasn't 'failed' just because it's been slightly less successful than another system. Good luck to the 3DS and Vita, in the current economic climate the gaming industry has done reasonably well and competition is rarely ever a bad thing.

So this is what the second stick attachment for 3DS looks like then,

Oh dear, oh dear, what an embarrassment!

I'd say the relative price premium of PlayStation Vita is looking more worth it if only to avoid being seen owning this fugly monstrosity!

Yeah this is a nice thing. If we have 3 new consoles coming into the next gen it can only be a good thing for variety etc.

If something is representative of a real life / virtual life occurrence surely it is portrayed in 3 dimensions anyway - watching an actual film (with real people in 'real' locations) on a cinema screen is surely using a perception of 3 dimensions in the first place.
Much as say, Tekken or other 3 dimensionally rendered games rely on an understanding and perception of 3 dimensions by those playing.

I cannot perceive anything above the usual 3 dimensions , my eyes do not 'allow' for the added 3d-ness of the current trend in films and games as light/shade , depth , contours , physical volume etc are part of 3 dimensions.
