I must admit i'm starting to warm to the 3DS and less to the Vita. Looking at upcoming games for 3DS, there seems to be a lot of PS2/Xbox/GC generation style games coming out on it, certainly from Japan.
Vita feels like it is going to have a more current gen feel with games like Uncharted being stunning and entertaining but not as interactive as I would like.

Pretty much how it seems to me aswel although plenty of time for it to change. Its annoying seeing more and more developers trying to make games more like movies and real life ish (Uncharted, MGS e.t.c) at the expense of gameplay and interactivity when instead they should just focus on being games. If i wanted loads of cinematics i'd go and watch a movie and if i wanted only story i'd read a novel. It's nice to have bits of these in games and i always feel they should put them in but this gen more and more developers seem to have crossed the line and it's spoiling the overall gaming experience.
The square is a great shape, and one that is criminally underused in modern game design. In the push to ever more granular, chaotic environments, games have lost sight of the simple pleasures of right angles and straight lines.

In terms of user interaction I'd say Uncharted: Golden Abyss looks to be among the best PSV games there is.

As can be seen the game has the option to utilise both analogue sticks, novel use of touch screen controls, 'sixaxis' motion controls, shoulder buttons and face buttons.

I more meant that every jump is predetermined and there is little skill involved in moving across the terrain, unlike titles like the old Tomb Raider games.

Ah, I see what you mean. Shenmue has a lot to answer for I guess in terms of how it seemed to forever influence these sort of reduced/compromised gameplay changes! *

* Yes, I know Shenmue wasn't the very first game to use such things as QTEs before anyone pulls me up on that!

So do I if they're integrated sensibly and sparingly, e.g. as they are in the God of War series, imho.

^Indeed. Shenmue and Bayonetta used them well but i hate it when hitting them is the difference between life and Game Over. I shouldnt have to die some cheap death because the game unexpectedly asked me to press X while i was chilling out, falsely believing it was just a cutscene. Ninja Gaiden 3 looks to be pushing them in around every corner which has ticked me right off since the series is already punishing enough.

On topic, i wouldnt take anything too seriously in terms of the PSV sales figures. People were saying the exact same about the disappointing start to the 3DS' life, ringing the death bells, predictions it wouldnt make it to christmas but look at it now.
I wont be getting one yet for sure, need purchase a PSP first!
I asked for orange. It gave me lemon lime!

I like the QTE too, in moderation and well used like God of War. In fact God of War is hardly even a QTE, it is intergrated into the gameplay as opposed to the cut scenes.

The god of war QTE's took me by surprise a bit but they are well integrated and especially on the PSP games they add to the fun. Some games turn unnecessarily into Dragons Lair . I like a QTE to have a good / better outcome not live/die. Gives more incentive to replay.

TL:DR thread.

I just bought my son a 3DS for his birthday. Judging by his squeals of joy he's enjoying it immensely!

He had his DS: Lite for over 4 years and played it daily. The new Super Mario 3D game is going down a treat too, as is the Lego: Pirates of the Caribbean game, so I'm happy. As for the 3D, he only has it on while playing the games that support it, but he's actually more interested in using the other functions of the 3DS (the 3D camera and camcorder especially) and he's getting into short moviemaking because of it. Cool as far as I'm concerned.

I myself am not a huge mobile gamer, so that effectively brings to a close any need of mine to get another portable system. We still have the original DS:Lite in full working order after all.

Note: This isn't about which device is better, but which is more suitable.

Issue of game pricing reminded me of my MD days (stick with it, this will make sense)...

Codemasters had released Fantastic Dizzy on MD cartridge for R.R.P of £39.99, lets assume it was aimed at younger players, game had no options, easy puzzles etc, very straight forward.

But Codemasters were, lets be honest, flogging a tarted up (in graphics and sound dept) ZX Spectrum game that what? 8 years before retailed at £2.99, for just under £40 (ok, i know it's case of tape VS Cart, but even so), who was really going to pay that when same money could have got you say Wonderboy 3 on MD?.

And in todays climate you have likes of iOS games VS 3DS and Vita games.Consumers like myself are going to think..why should i pay what i'm paying for a PS3 or 360 game, near as dammit, for a handheld game? Skrim and Batman A.C on say 360, under £25 new or what Sony want for Uncharted on Vita plus a ruddy memory card?

But espically if said QTE is your Marine kicking an Alien off or punching it...developers take fecking note (Gearbox, Rebellion etc).

Button mashing stuff, old hat as it is, i'm ok with, this stick rotation crap that keeps cropping up in God Of War etc, horrendous stuff and Konami:Putting button mashing QTEs on PSP MGS:Peacewalker was the worst idea ever....great move, hammer the 7 bells outta machine and hope you don't knacker the buttons and have to get unit repaired.Genius...

 Posted this in 'tother Vita thread, but seems more suited here.

Week 2 Vita sales according to The Sixth Axis: 72, 479.

Week 2 3DS sales were 200,000.

There may be trouble ahead....
