Exactly Crusto, for myself, GTA took a swift nose-dive with S.A, Rockstar banging on about how you could do this, do that, the 'realism' the game protrayed now etc.

Now, i dunno about anybody else, but realism was'nt what made GTA3 or V.C work for myself, it was the sheer escapism and bloody good fun i was having.

Thankfully so far GTA:VCS delivering that fun in spades, sat there tonight, 'sh*t-eating' grin on my chops, cracking up at the stuff blaring from the radio and NPC's mouths and just having a laugh in game proper.

Sometimes on Vice City all I would do is swan around in my Cheetah listening to the likes of Human League etc doing drive by shootings, grabbing the odd brazzer, doing her and then reversing over her for a refund! Building up my star count, having the row with the law, escaping. Rinse and repeat. Another was camping out at the top of the diving boards at one of the hotels with my sniper rifle....Then theres the motorbike stunts.

Sheer fun, at all times. Not driving along (with difficulty) and having to answer your phone, divert off course to meet up with a pal who wont like you very much if you dont etc etc. Nah, not for me.

Let me put it plainly: NO.

XBLA, PSN? It's an effing joke. If you want decent independent titles, the PC is the only way to go. Far, far bigger variety, tons of remakes, tons of retro inspired games. All far cheaper than the console rip-offs (lke...free).

But still, why would I want that? If I want to play old games (I do) I'll play the original thing created by skillful designers: Not cheap knock-offs from untalented developers with no innovation bone in their bodies.

What I want from indy developers is to boldly go where no man has gone before (sorry), not crappy knock-offs of old ideas.

Seriously, XBLA? Would I spend my time playing crappy twin stick shooters, or would I play the original games, like Robotron, created by truly talented developers like Eugene Jarvis? Hmmm...

I'll agree with that bit about the indie stuff and..... basically everything else on PC. As many games as I have for the consoles, I have waaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy more on PC.

Sadly, there's just no way to get some console gamers to ever fully use a PC. Gotta settle for the damn consoles in that case.

Not to mention it can be hard to get some players to ever try indie titles. I often hear the same damn stupid reason that I hear about iOS/tablet/whatever games: "Oh, you dont get REAL games in the indie selection". Siiiiiiiiiigh.

I'm a retro fan, I'm not interesting in this gen, nor at present in Retro. In fact gaming is really a low priority at the moment and its only the retro comps I play that keep us in the habit.

I upgraded my phone and got a Wii with it in November/December. It's still sat there boxed up, never used. and at this rate never likely to be. The Retro stuff is quietly gathering dust as well.

Ive no desire to try many games on this gens machines, there's a few that have piqued my interest. As I'm not interested in gaming at this point, Im hardly missing out, because I dont really care about it at all.

I love games old and new, and am about to upgrade now things are cheaper to PS3 or 360...and there are plenty of titles that'll keep me happy.

But- The newest hardware that really excites me more than I have been gamewise for a while...is the game gadget. I don't know a hellova lot about it, but love the idea/concept behind it. I can't wait to see whats available for it, love to see a game list of upcoming titles

Looked up this gadget thing..... hadnt heard of this much before. Now I'm interested.... though I wonder just how it'll do. All up to the selection of games for it, which is the one thing not at all mentioned on their main page; seems a little odd since the thing apparantly comes out in 9 days.

So what if the PC has a bigger variety, that does not mean XBLA is not worthy of investigating. you mention cheap knockoffs and remakes yet the PC indie scene is also full of them.

You complain that you want the original games not ripoffs and you want innovation, then praise the " Remakes and retro inspired " on the PC. Which is it to be. Are not remakes and retro inspired just another way of saying ripoffs and where is the innovation in doing remakes.

Me, I am quite happy with things like Castlevania Harmony of Despair, Braid, Darwinia+, Geometry wars, Megaman 9 + 10, Hardcorps uprising, The MAW, Shadow complex, Dishwasher, Garou mark of the wolves, Scott Pilgrim, Splosion man, Comic jumper, super meat boy, Trials HD, Castle Crashers, Deathspank, Torchlight, + many many more

I dont really understand why you felt the need to turn this into a competition, surely the fact that there are several ways of playing these styles of games are a good thing.

The few games that have sparked my interest on 360/PS3 are basically retro anyway - Scott Pilgrim , SF4 , M vs C 3 etc - so I am ill prepared to pay for a newish console that will provide nothing I can't already get from my back catalogue. I have played SF4 , MW3 and Black ops as well as a few others and apart from SF4 the rest just didnt inspire me or make me want them.

Add to this the next phase of consoles heading our way , do I really need to invest in something that simply put won't give me what I want from playing games?

For now I am happy enjoying retro in the forms I have and feel no need to go any further. Constant streams of games by numbers/updates and overblown franchises are not my bag baby , the retro / indie content is nothing I can't live without (although Scott Pilgrim really does look like a laugh - damn you PSN for not having a PSP version) and I'd rather buy a sh#t load of (or a load of sh#t) games for the consoles I do have an interest in.

Feel very old school now.

Yeah, I can understand that. View my PC in the same way..... why buy the new consoles when I barely use the current ones, and the PC can give me lots and lots of exactly what I happen to want at any given time?

I've yet to hear anything about any of the new consoles that sounds particularly interesting as it is. ....though, hardly anything is known about them anyway, so...... yeah.

I have yet to play any touch screen games apart from Bejeweled that I liked.

Maybe it's all these years of having a controller and buttons etc, but try as i might, i just cannot get on with either motion control or touch screen gaming, even when carefully implemented, rather than tacked on to a port.

For what it's worth the original Bejeweled was a PC game you played with a mouse. It's adapted incredibly well to touch screens, but it's not a game that was designed around them. It's also old enough (2001) to count as retro, which will no doubt please Jagfest. :D

You misunderstood me: I did NOT praise remakes and retro inspired games on the PC. I said there is a far bigger choice on the PC of cheap knock-offs, but I still wouldn't play them or even appreciate them, since I prefer playing the originals any day of the weak.

IF you want to go down that road (remakes, retro inspired stuff) the PC is a far better choice. I'm not interested in such stuff in any way (be it PSN, XBLA, or PC), I was just pointing that the PC has a far wider selection and most games are offered for free.

Having said that I don't dis remakes entirely, since they serve a purpose (introducing great games to a new generation of gamers) and they are labours of love for their creators; a tribute to their favourite games.

But I'd rather play the originals and I'm far more interested in seeing indy developers doing innovative stuff, not rehashing old ideas.

2000 is retro?

Faaaaah.

I say, if it's past the SNES era, it's not retro anymore.

So there. I have decided that I am correct, therefore I am.
