Double Dragon Neon - It's Out!

Postby IronMaidenRule on Wed Apr 04, 2012 6:49 pm

Vintage side-scrolling beat 'em up series Double Dragon gets a makeover on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade this July, publisher Majesco has announced.

As detailed on IGN, Double Dragon: Neon stays true to the franchise's roots, offering old-school left-to-right scrapping. Expect a traditional combo system and an arsenal of familiar weaponry to pick up, including baseball bats, whips and hand grenades.

As hinted at by the title, it's a knowingly retro affair so prepare for a retina-scorching '80s day-glo vibe, complete with tinny hair metal soundtrack.

The choice of developer offers cause for optimism. Wayforward Technologies has proven it knows its stuff when it comes to this sort of thing - it's the same studio behind DS gems Contra 4, Aliens: Infestation, Shantae and Mighty Switch Force, as well as handsome home console efforts like a Boy and his Blob and Bloodrayne: Betrayal.

The last new game in the series to make it to these shores was Double Dragon 5: The Shadow Falls on SNES and Sega Mega Drive way back in 1994.

All I can say is Hurrah! I think I must be the only one who liked the Speccy version of DD, so I'll be waiting for this with baited breath. Lets hope it doesn't turn out to be monkey flem.

I am probably in a minority but I really enjoyed Double Dragon 3, played it to death on the ST and Amiga!

Thought it was ok when I first played it, but then after a while, I just thought it was terrible to play. Looked great, though, just played like hairy lion b0ll0cks.

I've got the MD version - unfortunately!
Also, whatever happened to DD IV?

New one sounds promising, I'd prefer a new SOR though.

wasn't Super Double Dragon on the SNES not Double Dragon IV? which was quite good, though with too much slowdown during some crowded scenes

I wonder if it'll have tons of slowdown whenever theres any action happening?

Seriously though this is long overdue, i'm looking forward to it!

As long as I can complete the whole thing first go by using a single move:

I'm interested!

It'd be nice to play a Double Dragon game without any slow down. Fingers crossed.

Sorry, but I can just see this going the same way as the hd release of Turtles in Time. The game will be panned, the co-op online will be pretty healthy for the first 2 weeks, and then ...bam. Nobody in sight. Your now looking at a single player game, unless of course, your play local co-op, which nobody does in this day and age, as were all forever alone. lol

One of the best things about this forum is that so many have linked up via XBLA (or PSN etc) so even if the online side of this new Double Dragon does fade away there should still be somebody on here who you can arrange to play multiplayer with.
