Everything that's new is a gimmick? I don't see how you can claim that, tbh.

I just mean when something new that appears unnecessary compared to what's done the job just fine previously. If it's successful and catches on it's no longer considered a gimmick.

Is that always true though? For instance, the Wii caught on massively but many people still seem to consider the Wii Remote motion controls to be a gimmick.

Then evidently motion controls haven't caught on enough then.

But even so just because something is deemed to be gimmicky by some it doesn't mean some people can't still enjoy it.

It's because many people are ignorant and dismiss things they haven't even tried. Especially on forums.

Motion controls are fine for what they do. The problem is, that many games just used them in an unnecessary and gimmicky way - even a few Nintendo games.

But Zelda Skyward Sword, Red Steel 2, Wii Sports Resort and especially using the Wiimote pointer for aiming in Metroid Prime etc. showed some pretty cool possibilities for different gameplay which haven't been possible before.
If you like it or not - that's another story. But it worked and it made these games stand out.

The Wii U gamepad can do the same thing. There is a lot of potential (if someone owns a DS it is easy to imagine some of it). We just have to see, if developers make use of it.

Well, "it worked" in the sense that games using Wii Motion Plus worked. The vast majority of Wii games, however, only use the standard Wii Remote and those games 'work' with varying degrees of success.

The PlayStation Move obviously 'works' better than the technology Ninty employed with the Wii Remote and as for Kinect, well, from what I've read it's a bit of a mixed bag.

Are you stating that anyone who's ever looked at Kinect and ruled out purchasing it due to them considering it gimmicky is therefore "ignorant"?

Not if you put it that way.

All consumers have the right to spend their money on what they want and I for myself think that Kinect is used in too many games in just a gimmicky way. I wouldn't buy one right now as well.
But I would never say, that Kinect is just a gimmick. I thought it had potential when they first showed it and I still think it has.
Right now only for some games - like Dance Central or Child of Eden etc. and I'm not interested in them. But maybe someday there will be a game that makes great use of kinect and then I will buy one too.

The plastic wheel that comes with Mario Kart Wii - that's a gimmick imho.

And yes, it took Nintendo too long to show the potential of motion controls. Nevertheless it is there.

I prefer the Wiimote over Move. Motion detection is quite similar (with the WiimotePlus Addon attached) but the pointer is faster and more accurate with the sensorbar what I have experienced and I really liked the idea of the built-in speaker - as bad as the sound quality was.
I loved listening to phone calls in Silent Hill - Shattered Memories and I liked the weapon sound effects in some other games.

Don't Telegames basically just make card and puzzle games these days anyway?

I can't say I'm remotely interested in anything they'll be selling, but every publisher who gets on board adds to the appeal for someone, so nice to have them around.

If they did a new Iron Soldier game that would be incredible!

In the case of Wii Sports I agree the motion controls worked well. However when I started playing Metriod Prime 3 (and Other M for that matter) was that they'd be much better on a standard pad
