Mega-Drive Manuals

Postby Supernaut on Mon Jun 18, 2012 12:47 pm

I was going through ebay recently and started thinking about the differences between Mega-Drive manuals. The common one (and one I remember as a kid) is the foldout one with blue pictures and writing. But I also have a few of the full colour glossy ones. I figured this was just a case of each game manufacturer using different manuals, but I recently saw a copy of Batman Returns with the foldout type, whereas mine is the glossy type. Does anyone know the history behind this? Or could even point me to somewhere that talks about this? I find it interesting that the same game could have been released with both type of manual.

Also are any of them considered harder to find, and therefore worth more?

I was looking at two copies of micro machines yesterday and they are identical except for a few bits in the manuals. Some parts seem changed (very slightly) for no reason whatsoever.

Oh wow, I had no idea there could be that many differences. I guess the same would be true of a lot of other systems as well, I just had never noticed it before.

All the MD manuals I remember were glossy. However, all the Master System ones I remember being slightly blue in hue and matt textured. Maybe you're getting mixed up?

Yeah it's Mega-Drive for sure. I have heaps of those manuals and all of them for Mega Drive. Another example is I saw a copy of Thunder Force IV on ebay with the glossy manual and mine is the matte one.
