Cartridge tilting

Postby MikeFishcake on Thu Jul 26, 2012 11:25 am

OK, have I missed out on something that everyone else knows about?

I mean, I never had much experience of the N64 which is where it seems to be most prevalent, but I didn't know that it was something so commonplace it had a name...

We used to think of this as a "cheat" for Sonic 3D on the Mega Drive - just tap or wiggle the cartridge at the title screen and you'd get the level select. Someone even got this printed in Sonic The Comic's cheats section!

Heard about the Mega Drive cart "jiggling" or "Whipping out" and replacing with another game for some different effects, from infinite lives, level select etc. An old topic thread from the Sega 16 forums touches upon it:

There's a youtube video of Space Harrier 2 of the same method:

But never heard of the N64 one, besides the abandoned Banjo and Tooie cart swap function, but if you can pull out the cart, why the hell not (besides the potential of killing your game)....

I never had the balls to try - mind you I used to have one of those Mega Drives that crashed if you breathed on it!
