What are your long term complete collection goals?

Postby JenGamer on Wed Aug 01, 2012 9:43 pm

I want to collect
1) All 269 PAL Master System games
2) All 543 PAL Mega Drive games
3) All 196 PAL Game Gear games
4) All 99 PAL Mega CD games
5) All 23 PAL 32X games
6) All 5 PAL 32X CD games
7) All 241PAL Saturn games
8) All 216 PAL Dreamcast games

What long term complete collection goals do you all have?
Which of these complete collections do you think I should work towards first?

I was going by the Retro Collect list and I just realised they have the Photo CD Operating System on the Saturn list making it 241 even though there are 240 games in total.

I have 53 Master System games, 132 Mega Drive games, 20 Game Gear games, 17 Mega CD games, 4 32X games, 31 Saturn games and 20 Dreamcast games.
Which Sega sets are easier to collect for than others?

Please accept my appology, I thought the op was spam.

It's common for the Photo CD disk to be included in the PAL list. Ditto, the Xmas Nights release.

Interesting topic.

If you don't mind me asking - are you prepared to spend a significant amount of money on games that aren't very good? I often wonder do people consider the cost of a long term collection when they start out. There's about a thousand games there roughly, and if each is on average thirty quid (T-Mek, Darxide and Primal Rage on the 32X will impact on the average price significantly), then by my maths thats about thirty thousand right there  And that is a conservative estimate.

Still though, I admire full set collectors, as what they are doing is putting a collection together for their benefit, but also for posterity.

My own long term collection goal is to get the best games for every console system that is out there, in complete condition. Im not really a collector in some regards then, as I won't buy poor quality software, unless its dirt cheap and I'm curious about it. I also am a bit nerdish on my handhelds, particularly Ninty ones (no way, really? - forum). Would love a full set of Game Boys of all hues. I'd nerd off to that right there

My long term collection goal (if we are talking really long term) is to get the few remaining rare bits for my Megaman Collection - The Rockman Pinball machine and the two Japanese Rockman.exe arcade games. Seeing as I don't have the space or the money for either right now it'll probably be a long time before I get them (assuming I can find them).

Other than that I'll collect the last 30 odd Game and Watch releases I am short. Most are the rarer/expensive handhelds so I can't see me getting those either in a hurry!

I don't have any at the moment, as i've completed the GC (PAL) set and i'm not really interested enough in anything else to do it again.

Having said that i find myself vaguely intrigued by getting all the exclusive NTSC region GC games and completing the world set....but i doubt i'll truly commit myself to that project. I'll most likely pick off a few nice NTSC exclusive titles, (Baten Kaitos Origins, Alien Hominid, Cubivore, Donkey Konga 3, GT Cube etc....i'm looking at you here) that appeal to my curiosity.

Collecting PS1 and if you look at the amount of releases out there, you will know its a challenge, but they are still reletively common and hence quite cheap, car boot sales, charity shops, still have a few but them places mainly have the most common games, FIFA and Who Wants to be a Millionaire are the major ones.

I'm just collecting the best games on the console first, then the fluff (mary kate & ashley tart tour, or something to that effect) much later.

However I must admit I have been very tempted to start a Dreamcast collection.

I only collect for systems which I have a connection with (ie systems I used to own or own now), which is Atari 2600, Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, N64, PS2, Dreamcast, Gamecube, Xbox, DS, PSP, Wii, 360, PS3 and 3DS.
You can spend way too much money and time (it eats away just as much of that) so I limit myself to what people consider to be the best games on each platform, with a few extras which I find interesting. That way you have a realistic achievable goal. A good/popular game is easy to sell again if you ever need to get your money back. I made things more interesting(expensive!) by wanting them in as-new condition, with the exception of the 2600 and Gameboy titles. Including hardware I've spent an awful lot, and I'll never get all that back, but I don't mind as a collection is a very personal thing.

For your collection, I'd buy the oldest games first (in 3-5 years they'll be a lot harder to find). Also identify the hardest games to find and make them a priority.

Agree with that, its like someone wanting to collect all the Gameboy games and even include Barbie Gameboy games etc which seems bizarre. Collections sound alright if you actually play the games, just have the feeling people want to collect them to stick on a shelf forever after which seems a bit of a waste ?
