Xanadu is actually part of the "Dragon Slayer" series.... Faxanadu is considered to be a "sidestory" off of that particular entry.

One thing to keep in mind with the Dragon Slayer games: They dont really play alike. They're.... well, it's hard to really consider them a series. I think the very first and second games (Xanadu is number 2) are the ones that sorta play similar to each other, but beyond that..... not really.

Look up a game called "Legacy of the Wizard". Was released here in NA, I dont think there was a PAL version of this. It is an NES title, and it's one of the Dragon Slayer series. Number 4, I believe.

Also to keep in mind: Faxanadu is the one game in the series to NOT be made by the original series devs. It was made by Hudson Soft. The others were made by Falcom.

The Dragon Slayer series eventually evolved into what is now the Legend of Heroes series. I believe some of these can be found on the PSP? I forget.

I'm a fan of Faxanadu and Legacy of the Wizard myself. Legacy is very confusing though. Think a Metroid-ish game with a MUCH MUCH greater emphasis on hidden things and secret breakable walls and stuff like that. It's interesting though. Like Faxanadu it is a side-scroller combined with some RPG elements, but.... they play absolutely nothing alike beyond that.

Thanks alot for that info.

I already knew faxanadu was almost a standalone game, and not really considered part of the dragon slayer series, and I knew there were digressions from the series in terms of gameplay, was just really eager to see how everything relating to faxanadu, played like. Much appreciated none the less. However I didnt know it evolved into the Legend series, which is amazing to know. Legacy of the wizard will definately be next on my list =)

Been playing WWF No Mercy this afternoon.

Damn it AKI! Make a new wrestling game like No Mercy, don't bother with the WWE license, just make it with a deep CAW mode and take my damn money!

I'm still going through yakuza dead souls. Taking my time and trying to do as much as the side stuff as possible. Yet again though I'm stuck on the batting cage mini game, I've yet to find any of the series where I've managed to complete it!

I'm also hopelessly addicted to dynasty warriors next for the vita. The story mode does a nice job of focusing on loads of different characters and main battles while the conquest mode is a great excuse to play around with characters I usually wouldn't use.

Yes, a great game! The addition of proper masks would make No Mercy literally perfect.

Overall I probably still prefer No Mercy over VPW though, the move list is a little better from what I remember, but I do miss the cartoony chunky-ness of the wrestlers which No Mercy didn't really have.

Yeah the single player mode in No Mercy is superb. If they combined the best parts of NM and VPW2 they'd make one hell of a game. 8)

Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky. Came out over here in a Limited Edition set. I didn't know it was related in any way to these games however so you learn something new every day :)

Nearing the end of Mass Effect 2 on Insane difficulty, it's certainly living up to the name! It's really difficult

I cleared devil may cry (still excellent) and started on dmc2 on the hd collection. I thought maybe I might have been exaggerating over how much I disliked it but no more than 5 minutes into the game I still don't like what they did to it. Dante has a load of new moves that are practically useless, the areas are far to big so chaining combos together are difficult for the wrong reasons. The health bars on certain enemies (the tanks and helicopter) are stupidly large and just boil down to pressi the shoot button again and again until they are dead. Bloody boring stuff.
To be far, the enemies do seem more aggressive than I remember

More Gridrunner on iOS.

Holy crap. It's been AWHILE since I've seen an indie game of this particular type that's THIS good. Gives me everything I want in a shmup, good scoring, lots and lots of stuff to dodge, interesting mechanics, and a high difficulty level.

Also.... Jeff Minters, he sure knows his retro games. Aside from looking EXACTLY right for the type of retro he was going for with this one, it also has alot of sound effects from games of that era. I noticed numerous effects from the wonderful arcade game "Zoo Keeper", which seriously could almost have been made by him, it's definitely his sort of style.

Also this is the first game I've seen where your ship can fire SO many bullets at once (with the right powerups) that it's actually possible to lose track of what's going on. Because of YOUR OWN bullets.

Bloody amazing.

I've been playing Winning Eleven 6 Final Evolution, even started a new master league! Just feel like a bit of the old PES as Fifa offline just doesn't cut it.

Also someGradius V which is utterly amazing, one of the best shooters I have ever played in fact.

Sonic wings 2 - far too much of this. Cannot wait to put it to rest after the league game ends - viewtopic.php?f=3&t=32458

Bug Princess - IOS - amazing port of Mushihimesama and at a stupidly low price. Cannot stop playing this.

Dont forget to grab Bug Princess 2! It's just as good of a port as the first. Though like the first it's lacking in extras.

It also has that ##(%&-ing spider boss that I just loathe so very much. There's no damn BOAT in that game, so this time it's a spider instead. Because that makes perfect sense.
