Xanadu is actually part of the "Dragon Slayer" series.... Faxanadu is considered to be a "sidestory" off of that particular entry.
One thing to keep in mind with the Dragon Slayer games: They dont really play alike. They're.... well, it's hard to really consider them a series. I think the very first and second games (Xanadu is number 2) are the ones that sorta play similar to each other, but beyond that..... not really.
Look up a game called "Legacy of the Wizard". Was released here in NA, I dont think there was a PAL version of this. It is an NES title, and it's one of the Dragon Slayer series. Number 4, I believe.
Also to keep in mind: Faxanadu is the one game in the series to NOT be made by the original series devs. It was made by Hudson Soft. The others were made by Falcom.
The Dragon Slayer series eventually evolved into what is now the Legend of Heroes series. I believe some of these can be found on the PSP? I forget.
I'm a fan of Faxanadu and Legacy of the Wizard myself. Legacy is very confusing though. Think a Metroid-ish game with a MUCH MUCH greater emphasis on hidden things and secret breakable walls and stuff like that. It's interesting though. Like Faxanadu it is a side-scroller combined with some RPG elements, but.... they play absolutely nothing alike beyond that.
Thanks alot for that info.
I already knew faxanadu was almost a standalone game, and not really considered part of the dragon slayer series, and I knew there were digressions from the series in terms of gameplay, was just really eager to see how everything relating to faxanadu, played like. Much appreciated none the less. However I didnt know it evolved into the Legend series, which is amazing to know. Legacy of the wizard will definately be next on my list =)
