In a way it's a shame, since it has a lot of charm and a lot of effort was put in to it. Problem was that I think they were just being a bit too ambitious and trying for something the SNES couldn't really do. The consequence is a very choppy frame rate, and graphics where it isn't always clear what's going on. Therefore it only has limited appeal

I utterly adore this game. I would love a 3DS version running in 3D at 60fps with all new content and all the old stuff too. Will never happen though.

I have a US version which has been overclocked to add a few vital frames per second. It really does make quite a difference to the look and feel of the game. Much more responsive than before and easier to focus on the visuals.

I'm a couple of hours into PoP: The Forgotten Sands on the Wii and I love it. Warrior Within seemed to tone down the platforming in favour of combat and I still haven't played Two Thrones properly but this is just like The Sands Of Time, and that means Pure Gaming Goodness. I recently tried to play through the Assassin's Creed games on the PC but gave up after a few hours because I just wasn't enjoying them. By replacing the open-world, mission based structure with a more traditional platform game framework and the po-faced Altair/Ezio with the likeable Prince, the PoP games take the same basic principles and make them 1,000,000% more fun. True fact.

One thing I will say though - this really shows how dumbed down games are becoming. Sands Of Time was what - ten years ago? Less? Yet this holds your hand so much more. A magical blue line points you in the right direction and if you're stupid enough to still not get it the game constantly offers hints about what to do next. And the save points are much more liberally sprinkled around - you seem to fall over them every couple of minutes whereas in TSOT they were much rarer, making for a much more tense game as you knew you could be thrown back quite a way if you died. Oh, and filling up the sand containers now just essentially gives you extra lives instead of letting you rewind time, which is less interesting. But all in all this is easily the best non-Mario platformer I've played on the Wii.

Ridge Racer: Unbounded, quite tough and it is indeed Burnout, still quite good though... but not Ridge Racer

I decided to go back to Yakuza Dead Souls this weekend and wound up playing it most of the weekend. I still think its the least impressive of the Yakuza games (shooting zombies just isn't as fun as the hand to hand combat of previous games) but I still can't put it down. I've managed to complete pretty much all the story now (just a couple of chapters to go) so I'm just wrapping up side missions, mini games, trophies etc. I actually managed to win a few games of Pool against the expert opponent, not quite sure how I managed that

Other than that I've been playing more Dragons Dogma. Its surprisingly good, combat feels very rewarding and the range of moves you have at your disposal is impressive. The difficulty is also nicely paced so its pretty tough from the outset (2-3 hit kills from enemies) but a little patience and most enemies can be taken down, enemies don't level up with you though (like in Oblivion) so its sometimes just a case of going away, doing a few other quests and coming back more powerful.

I played ME2 right off the back of the original ME and would say it took me about 7-8 hours of play to get "into it". I had a lot of initial reservations over the change in inventory system, but ultimately the upgrading method seemed better.

Commandos 1 from GOG. I've been downloading so much stuff from there recently and only played this and Dark Fall [but I found that a bit too scary! ]

Dragon Quest VIII.

Had a save file which began in 2005 when the game came out but I got stuck on a boss 61 hours in. Finally did it last night!

Nox, PC. Westwood's last game I think, an action RPG. That and Sins of a Solar Empire.

i'm playing it on ps3 so haven't played the first and can't compare the two,i just hope i can keep everyone alive on the final mission to carry over to 3.i have found the mining to be frustratingly slow but apparently it's much easier on 3,i did notice in the local cluster (our galaxy) that for uranus the ships computer said "probing uranus" (pronounced your anus) instead of the usual "launching probe" or "probe launched".i haven't noticed any other planet name being said, just an easter egg to watch out for.

Trials Evolution - 360 Progressed to making my own tracks now. Amazingly easy and makes the hours fly by!!
Battlefield 3 - 360 Still love this, can't wait for the DLC next month.

FIFA 2012 (UEFA Championships DLC) Well, I was, but it got dull hella fast. Tried to grind out the new game mode, but can't be arsed now. Pro Evo did it on the Wii first, and imo, much much much better!!!

Not playing a whole lot lately - a bit of The Last Story every now and then, Resident Evil Revelations and the odd bit of retro. I'm fairly busy with other things right now, plus I haven't bought a whole lot of games recently, and maybe I'm just not all that interested in games right now for whatever reason. However, I am planning a new project right now - to play one DS game ever week in a serious way.

I have quite a lot of original DS games that I have gathered up over the years which I haven't played through. Its the only format that I have an extensive back log on. Anyway, I have selected a game that I have only played once before - Pokemon Link.

For me the DS is a superb system for puzzlers - the genre it does best. I have thoroughly enjoyed the likes of Picross, Brain Training, Zoo Keeper and Heroes of Might and Magic over the years, so Pokemon Link seems like a good place to start. I only played it once as I found it far too easy when I did play it, which put me off as that play session went on for ages and it just wasn't fun after a while. I started the campaign anyway and I'm going to give it a good go over the next week and see what I think...

My nipper blagged me into buying Arkham City on Sunday and because of the age cert we are playing through it together. He is totally obsessed with it, and I think its very, very good.

Currently playing through the first Uncharted game on PS3. It's reasonably good to play and it looks pretty nice but it's hardly the second coming of Christ like some make it out to be.

I'm at around Chapter 10 now and nothing super-duper amazing has happened so far, and I'm getting a bit narked by the puzzle bit>big wide space full of enemies>puzzle bit with bad camera issues>big wide space full of enemies>occasional vehicle bit (ad infinitum) mechanic, I just hope it all 'clicks' 'cos i was expecting the amazing level of hype for this to hold a few grains of truth, rather than the 'decent, looks nice enough' vibe I'm getting so far.

To be fair isn't it Uncharted 2 that people rave about?

Uncharted 2 is a big step up from the first one. Uncharted 1 is a solid game, some cool moments and it kept me entertained until the last chapter (which kind of ruined is slightly for me) but it was Uncharted 2 that really made me enjoy the series.
