Why does the high score say 685403?

Doesn't mean I'm bad at this game, it's just GigaWing is more enjoyable and less frustrating.

I have to agree. I'm regretting my vote already. Stage 4 boss is kicking my ass.

Heard there's a 300k bonus way to destroy this boss?

^ yep I've managed it a couple of times using savestates but it's hard to work out the timing. You have to destory the turrets first to make the centre self destruct. Make sure you have the machine gun weapon, and you probably need autofire as well. I think it's something to do with the time you take to destroy the second turret after the first, but I don't know.

Also I think the game is pretty good. Enemies shooting/ramming you from the bottom of the screen is super annoying but when the rank gets high and the bullets get crazy it's really exciting. I don't care for the smart pods, though, it seems you can't rely on them, whereas with fixed you chose which shots to block and which to dodge.

It's certainly an epic piece of work for a 1992 shooter. 30 stages! I've credit fed up to stage 8 and noticed 5 & 6 are quite tame, no missed them with power up spread shot.. It's kinda like stage 4 is the first big boss level then it calms before another storm. Is there another big boss on stage 8? I imagine some of the bosses will repeat later on.

I do like the game though finding it stupidly hard. I'm just gonna play for survival and credit feed for practice until my ps2 copy arrives. When the rank goes mental, the emulation doesnt hold up for me.

There's apparently a vid of some Brazilian player clearing this game without using pods! Going to try find it later. That will be a sight to see.

Nah, it's too early for that.
Besides, Giga Wing and Varth are so much different from each other that comparisons aren't really fair.

Opening effort from me

Mero - ROB - 2,291,700 - Stage 14 - Smart - PS2

Played with a really shonky pad because it's the only Playstaion peripheral I own with auto fire switches. I don't mind playing most shooters with manual fire but in this game you really need rapid IMO. I'd rather use my stick any day of the week if that wasn't the case.
