Gigawing uses 2 attack types on one button so auto fire is useless I guess.

Actually, that's not the case. Even with one button for firing, you can still set an auto and non-auto for it. So you'd have one button you hold for normal firing, and the other you press and hold for a shield. Let me know if you want me to explain in detail how to do it (I'd do it now, but I'm not entirely awake yet)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------THE RGF SHMUP LEAGUE - SEASON #1, GAME #7: GIGA WING - Arcade & Mame (6th June - 20th June 2012)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Image

Giga Wing, Arcade, Capcom, 1999. Vertical, 7 Stages, Power Up by Icons, Checkpoints OFF

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GAME SETTINGS:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Arcade, MAME versions only*
(JAP & ASIA versions the default difficulty is 4, US is set to 2)**
3 Lives
No continues***

*The Dreamcast port has a few changes in enemy placement (less snipers, more or less:we're speaking of a tank or two per level put in a different place, and basically no slowdown at all. This is not a small aspect, as the CPS-2 version, in a few spots, slows down consistently, due to hardware limitations and to make the bullet patterns navigable. The Dreamcast version lacks this slowdown, as the basic hardware is more powerful: however, the bullets still go at a slower speed, as the programmers optimized the speed to make the incriminated sections still navigable.
Finally, there's the stranger as a selectable plane, which is also quite more powerful than the other planes. Info taken from http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=4749

**The default difficulty is 2 on Japanese versions and 4 on US/EURO ones, but they play in the same way: so, no necessity to change things. Info taken from http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=4749

***Any score submitted with the last digit being a number other than 0 will not be accepted. When a continue is used the score resets but the last digit changes to represent a continue being used.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SUBMISSION INFO REQUIRED:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PLAYER - INITIALS - SCORE - STAGE REACHED - SHIP/CHARACTER USED - FORMAT & REGION - AUTO FIRE ON/OFF (screenshot/photograph must be included)

AmidstStorm - AMS - 1,2334,5667,8990 - Stage 2 - Raijin/Sinnosuke - MAME US ROM - Off

Please use this exact format when posting scores for ease of administration. Numbers are grouped in 4's (will make more sense when playing the game)
Auto Fire is allowed but I'd like players to now include whether they use it or not in the submission info.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BONUS POINTS
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Any player who manages a one credit clear on this game will receive a three point bonus.
Once a bonus has been awarded, all future high score submissions do not effect that bonus, even if new submission is a higher score but with no one credit clear.

Game officially starts tomorrow so we get the full 15 days, but i will take submissions from today as per usual.

Enjoy!

Went in search of some tips and came across this unconnected run-through - it must surely be a bullet-hell lover's dream? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQZuidKe ... re=related Must say, I find no fun in something this ridiculous. Anyhoo, back to playing GWing. :D

The reflect is possibly one of the most satisfying things ever taking out big enemies. This game is awesome.

Would you believe that boss is actually alot harder than it even looks? That's not even the entire fight, actually. The guy in that video used a continue, so the boss never changed forms.

THIS is the entire fight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ztCxpBm ... JfGFREukEg

Bloody epic, is what it is. And damn near impossible. Given that amount of lives (in training mode of course) I can get halfway through the "floating around in chair" form, but that's as far as I've gotten.

Fun fight to attempt every now and then. Too bad Ultra mode itself in that particular game isnt much fun.

Aaaaaaaanyway.

Looks like we actually got a GOOD game this time! My mind is sufficiently blown by this fact.

I expect to see a good number of 1ccs with this one. Pretty easy game; actually it's really great for anyone wanting to get into the genre. The boss that is stage 6 is one of my favorite parts of any shmup; always loved that. The stage 7 boss isnt quite as cool by comparison.

I'll put up a run of my own either later tonight or within the next few days, depending on my mood and how badly I feel like playing Minecraft, lol.

Finally though, a game I'll actually enjoy. Even though I never was any good at scoring in this one.
