Stick with it for awhile; you'll see what I mean.

The game does alot of things that tend to LOOK like really nasty attacks, but after a bit of practice.... they really arent. And dont forget, you're *completely* invincible while the shield is active, and the shield also does damage to enemies.

Seriously, it's not a hard game. Definitely one of the easier shmups that I'm aware of. It's great fun though; this is the one I recommend to anyone wanting to try out the genre.

Getting to Stage 6 , not so hard... getting the 1CC, pretty hard.

Really? Hm, I woulda expected you'd find it an easy one to clear as well, with all of them 1cc's you've pulled off on so many of these games

I dunno, maybe I've spent too much time with this one, so my view on it might be a bit skewed.

Absolutely excellent game either way though. Giga Wing Generations was pretty nice too, though not quite as good. And I've NEVER played the second game. Not for a lack of wanting to, but I've never seen a copy anywhere, and never seen a working ROM. Even checking my big damn rom archive just now, that rom is SO broken it makes the emulator crash entirely.

Put in alot of hours today.. loads of stupid deaths and early game overs to finally get to this.. but you can see the progress beating my old reached stage 5 credit by 2 billion.

The version of MAME i'm using is strange. I set it to auto save when I quit so I can keep my high scores, but occasionally it returns me to a mid game credit or old save.. I lost my 1.1 score somewhere, not that it matters now.

I certainly dont find this game easy but the shield helps out in tough situations. I guess it's about learning the times to use it so it can recharge quick enough before the next huge bullet wave.

Love this game, though i might have to have a few days off if I stick to manual fire, I can't close my hand through having no auto fire..

Aye, Giga Wing was also my introduction to bullet hell back when I bought my Dreamcast. By that time I wasn't aware of the genre conventions, but later on I did manage to 1LC the game with Ruby.

Dealing with 3/4 of the game can be probably considered easy, but the last couple of stages spice it up a good notch.
The lack of extends is another challenge factor to be considered in the long run.
 I'll try to play with that useless Sinnosuke.

Lost 2 lives in succession on the Stage 6 boss, as you can see from the medal number.
I don't think autofire benefits at all, apart from it stops your fingers from hurting so much. I usually use Stuck, so I'm not used to the difference in boss patterns.

How do you map the second attack (reflect) to a different button? I think this could definitely cause me some damage if i keep playing this with my Hori stick and manual fire. It hurts to pick things up now.

Great score by the way.

That's just how I feel after every game, and I only have a laptop keyboard to use!

Oh, and that great score of yours Ami - it's actually 2 TRILLION points better than your previous best!

Well, it's an improvement.

Although now used to the shield attack, I am finding an awfully wide spread of special point icons to collect as a result, most of which I cannot help but not collect try as I might, in stead of a focused 'tower' of icons allowing for majority collection of. Most annoying, especially as collection means I can challenge the trillion-score zone. Hmm....

Do you like using the keyboard? Don't you think a USB adaptor for a Saturn or ps controller is the way to go for a cheap option. Considering you have one of those controllers that is?

I find all the points come in stage 4 and 5 for me.

There is an extend in stage 4. Not hard to figure out how to make it appear.

However, it can only be gotten if you've already lost 2 lives before that point. Which, yes, is bloody stupid, but that's how it goes.
