I've always liked the series myself, but I will say, it definitely can be frustrating. And it still has "powerdown syndrome", but not to the crazy level that Gradius takes it (aka, no need to just reset if you get blasted once)

It's the contrary for me.
Die in any place in stages 6 or 7 of R-Type and you're toast.

Hmm, I guess it's at least somewhat subjective, then.

Gradius has always done that to me even if I die on stage TWO, but, hmmm, part might just be my playstyle.

I played a few credits of gradius II earlier to see how I'd fair
And managed to get to stage 2 and no further. It sure is a lot harder.

Got to 2-3 and 2-4 a few more times on gradius but not improved on score. This may be it for me.

And to put that in perspective, I dont think the first Mushihime's Ultra mode is hard enough.

Spent 2 disastrous hours with Gradius last night.
Got to the last stage once then everything downgraded from there. When I stopped I was dying in stage 2.

It certainly can be frustrating with the power up system and the rank can be infuriating sometimes.

You've cleared this before though I assume Ed?
