Cheers fellas - will be on the hunt for those two 2nyt to see which one works best for me.

On a side note - I recently picked up an R4 PS3 arcade stick aswell as more recently Hori Pro for my PS2 (unpacking the Hori 2nyt & cannot WAIT :) )- has anyone ever heard of any patches or converters I could find to be able to use either of these on the PC for MAME? I've heard the X-Arcade set-ups are the only way to go for retro gaming through MAME but at the moment my finances and sensibilities say that 2 sticks in the house is probably already enough haha
From Game&Watch to PS2 and Arcade in between, its been so much fun every single step of the way.

I use a hori pro stick (mushihimesama futari ltd edit Xbox 360), directly into my pc via usb and use that in mame. It doesn't work with my old mame set up (mame32 0.106) but works fine in shmupmame 2.2 and some others I used to use. For pc shmups i would use a program called xpadder to map my sticks/controllers if they weren't found automatically. I've literally spent hours of my life testing different mame set ups and hunting google. I still have issues. Just find a formula that works for you and stick with it :)

Another good program to use is Joy2Key. That's the one I've been using, and I have to play *all* PC games (aside from slow, turn-based ones) with the damn controller, including games like Diablo 3 that are normally all mouse (that one though requires a couple additional things). Xpadder is pretty good too though. I keep both around for the rare occaision when one of them just REFUSES to work on a certain game for reasons I've never figured out.

As Mame goes though...... yeah. IS there a version of Mame that JUST BLOODY WORKS? I dont think so. It seems like the usual thing to do is to have like 5 versions of it sitting around, depending on the game and the setup. Annoying, but..... it's hard to complain too much about it when you've got 7000+ arcade titles on there.

......but I'll complain anyway. I'd have to be asleep or something to STOP complaining about stuff.

I'm sensing submissions are going to be a little lighter for this final game. 10 players in the league are also involved in STGT '12. I know I'm struggling to find time for in the hunt myself.

Also ive been working on some ideas for season 2. The structure will be 'almost' unchanged but I am open to suggestions and feedback from anyone as long as it doesnt involve making the game time longer. That is concrete im afraid.

Feel free to pm me.

Ye gods, this game is a harsh mistress. Best score from today.

I hope this keeps me at least in the top 3.
I'm starting to dismantle things tomorrow for the move and will have very little access to the Internet for at least a week.

In the Hunt is fun but a bit too slow. Playing it and Strikers 1999 at the same time is almost funny in a certain way.
And I won't do as well in Strikers I'm sure :|

This game is busting my balls..
Only got to 160,000 something and finally made it to the stage 2 bosses..

ArcadeMYK - MYK - 164,400 - Stage 2 - 86* - MAME - Off

Slowly beginning to appreciate the slower approach this game uses - and by going through the levels a little slower than you want to really pays off..
I swear I have done stage one on this game about 200 times now... gotta find the Zen... I think its gradually developing.

You're right. For me, it clicked when I slowed down. It really is a game of precision movement and timing rather than zipping around blasting.

But not too leisurely though, I've ran out the clock a few times trying to take down every single thing. :D

Good submissions coming in by all. Congrats kollision on the 1CC. Looks like I not only have to 1CC the game, but also beat your massive score to win the league... I can only try 8)

Quite pleased with this result. Wasn't watching the sky when 3 helis spat at me - too pre-occupied with the Ripley machines - so lost my last life stupidly. Ho hum.

Just looking through the ITH scores and wondered what does the star rating mean? It's between Score and Stage on the hi-score table.
