kollisionBR - KOL - 838,800 - 8 - Hien - US AES

I tried to play with other characters, but it's obvious that Hien is the best one for scoring....

Nice score there KOL. Have you seen the Stage 8 boss yet?

I beat my PB and got a 767k, but..

went for a cig break and got back to a frozen title screen :(

No pic, therefore no submission.

Still struggling with the Stage 6 wall. Stage 8 is all kinds of mental.

Fightersmegamix - 877,400 - stage 8 - Hein - NGCD Jap

Finally a breakthrough. Didn't think I would ever see off that bloody boat boss. Stage 8 boss is hilarious, might be a brick wall here :)

It's a bit of a step up in difficulty isn't it?

Good score man.

Looking at my workload, I probably won't be taking part in the league for this game. Been asked to bone up on half a dozen things at once, plus staff shortages mean longer hours. :? Bit gutted, but oh well. Hopefully things will be smoother come the next game!

All of their games are like that. It can be a little annoying, really. Endbosses often consist of them just whipping blobs of bullets at you at ludicrous speed.

It's an unfortunate flaw in an otherwise really good developer's games.

Go watch a playthrough of Space Bomber sometime. Wait'll you see just how loopy that game gets near the end (or heck, even just at the midpoint).

Never even heard of Space Bomber til you mentioned it. I'll go take a look.

Yeah the launching bullets you can't even see thing, is just damn sneaky. Annoys the hell out of me. If i had to pay to play the game, i just wouldn't with tricks like that put in there. It doesn't require skill, because if you can't see it, it's unavoidable imo.

Oh.. on a side note. My AES is one of the few retro systems that actually look worse on a CRT TV rather than on a HDTV.

Actually Sonic Wings seems to be the main offender as far as the "really tiny bullets" bit goes. MOST of Psikyo's stuff does not use the super-dinky shots, opting for a more normal size as the smallest. So I was rather surprised at them in this game myself as well.

But yeah, Space Bomber is a wierd one. Definitely the most creative of all of Psikyo's stuff, but it easily takes the award of most difficult as well. Combine one of their shmups with Nintendo's Kirby and his eat-foe-get-power thing, and you have the bizarrity that is Space Bomber.

It's fun, it's just VERY aggravating.

I guess they learnt from their mistakes. Sonic wings was pre Psikyo. Same team but different name. it's a good game though, but playing on MVS settings is brutal. Not sure if the other difficulties on the home ports are less rank based.

Have just been playing a bit of Strikers 1945+.. i didn't realise they put in blue and pink bullets into the game. I'm sure the other Strikers have orangey coloured ones??

1945+ is the only one with the pink and blue. Every other game, orange and yellow (sigh).

As for the rank thing..... THAT one is consistent across ALL of their games. Sonic Wings' rank (on the difficulty we're playing at) actually seems LESS severe than some of the others. By a wide margin. An easier game than most of what they've made. This is counting stages 8 and 9 as well, lol (and stage 10 is sort of a joke). The boss patterns are also quite a bit easier. I'm thinking we'll have more than a couple 1cc's with this one.

I hope so, but I'm not so sure. I'm still getting wiped out early by stupid paced ranked bullets. I'm not even finding Stage 6 hard any more. It's just when the rank is up, it's guaranteed death o'clock. I've tried credits purely playing for survival, credits for score, it's making no difference because of the damn rank. if i could make it to Stage 8 with all lives, i might actually be able to progress.

Hmm, just keep at it. I think you should be able to beat this one, in all honesty. There are parts that kinda SEEM really nasty at first, but... this really is probably the easiest of the Psikyo games I've played. If I were to play this JUST for survival instead of for score, I'd have finished this one already (I usually die BECAUSE of going for points. Either trying to grab an item and getting shot, or trying to kill absolutely everything and break boss parts when there's much faster/safer ways to kill all of the bosses).

The trick for dealing with the rank is to remember what's going to fire and when; they dont shoot MORE bullets when the rank goes up.... they just shoot them faster. The same movements used to dodge a slow version of the pattern will work on the fast version, you merely have to do it earlier.

I always heard people saying how Sonic Wings 2 was easier than the early output by Psikyo, even though it was solely Video System who developed it. The design heritage that's common to both companies, however, is quite strong in Sonic Wings 2. It behaves like a Psikyo shooter and I think Misery put it quite well: just keep at it. Before you know it the first loop will be gone. Aggressive play FTW.

just to recap on the rules. Once a 1CC has been achieved, any future score submissions do not effect the bonus whether they are 1CCs or not. It is secure.

Could bag your 3 points then go back for purely score runs? Thats how I approached arrow flash. At a guess a first loop clear will be around 1-1.2 million, so wouldn't necessarily be easy to beat that score anyhow without an all clear.
