Just had another credit and got through to the stage 8 boss without dying.. was on the edge of my seat. 3 quick deaths and boom. Game over 906k

edit: few more goes and ive made it to Stage 10 now, but on a much weaker score. The stage 9 boss is ridiculous and takes an age to kill off. I bombed the hell out of him with all remaining bombs of every life i had.. lasted seconds in stage 10.. oh well some improvement since i was going to quit earlier. Anyhow. Stage 6 I can pass easily now and 8 only have trouble in that one slowdown place i mentioned and the boss is toughish.. until you know his patterns.

edit2: ok so i just beat some monkey boss with mini monkeys and then fought an eye and got game over. Stage 10. Just over 1 million score. That's it for me, been playing all day!

Worth Taking note that all the shiny bonus tokens are worth 10k each if you collect them when they're at the top of the screen. The lower they get the less they're worth.

You can sit on top of ground based enemies such as tanks and turrets and wont die, unless they fire of course. Point blank kill these as soon as the appear and youll auto pick up the bonuses.

Brazil has 8 bonuses i think. You can get 7 at 10k here and 1 at 4k. After Stage 3 you should be looking at a score of between 350-400k if you get brazil as stage 2. If all goes well you'll increase your score to somewhere around 500-550k before you even get to the boss of stage 6. Easily in the 700k range if you make if through to 8. As stage 7 is another bonus stage with big point bonuses here.

The stage 6 boss is a censored at first, took me an age to beat him unscathed.

When you're fully powered up. Think this takes 4 'P' icons i think. Every one you collect afterwards gives you an extra 2k. Your max power up level does decrease over time though and will go back down to level 3 if you don't continue to collect them to stay at level 4.

Also, bosses each have segments you can destroy first for extra points but considering the rank of the game, it becomes quite difficult the further or better you are. I absolutely hate the Paris plane boss

That's about all I've sussed out just from general play and from what people have talked about in this thread.

Been trying to catch all tokens at 10k, but passed L1 find it a struggle with my novice capability. Have recently opted to stay at the top of the screen from L2 ready for the tokens but find myself always overrun with enemy craft and too many bullets - I'm bound to find the knack sooner or later, though. Don't mind Paris boss - dodge and weave gets me by every time, though timeconsuming - just probably the most uninteresting level I have ever encountered in any game. Snooooooooze!

Managing to get everything on the bonus level - Power-Ups tend to home-in on your ship, so staying in one spot (which can be done depending on your craft) has been my best tactic.

Doubt I'll manage to break into Top 5, but would be happy to breach 500k.

I always try to set myself a personal target, usually I judge a game after the first big session which tends to be 2-4 hours. Mine was 800k for this game, and i was stuck at 450-500k forever it felt. Never thought i'd get past that damn boat stage. that reminds me.. where's Misery got to?

i just played a few credits, hit a 900k, broke the million on credit 2 but got game over on Stage 9 boss. On my 3rd credit I got game over on Stage 1. How do you fathom that?

Edit: It's worth knowing that you can literally ram into the enemies on stage 3 fully powered up (which happens instantly), and not die (this does on rare ocassion happen though). With Hi-en though, like you say, not really necessary to move too much.

Also, could be worth watching a vid on youtube of someone playing it. Not something i tend to do often, but saw a trick for the 3 sub bit on stage 6 and although i have my own trick now it's pretty good to see how others play/approach the game sometimes.

Good work Amidstorm, If you can repeat your credit where you got 1.08million on stage 9 and then go on to clear the loop you'll beat my score for sure. The final boss is worth 100k - that is the big eye thing you mentioned.

My score suffers a bit because I don't get the extra 80k from the 8 tanks just before the level 8 boss, it's way too risky with Spanky. I play with him because I'm playing with manual fire, the rest of them are too weak imo.

For that part where 2 helicopters come onto the screen at once, you need to start hammering one of them staight away and try to destroy it before they both do their spread attacks, having one out of the way makes it a lot easier to stay alive at that point.

Ive had quite a few credits where I've got further in the game but with a lower score than my best. I think that run was close to as good as I will ever do score wise. I had been playin all day though. I've hit a few 1.06 millions though getting to stage 10.

Is there a way to beat the stage 8 bosses last wave without bombing. The part where he fires those mental laZers. I really haven't made it through without bombing twice.

Do you need to stay in front of the boss? I guess not, at least with Hi-en.
After destroying both side turrets (I do left first then wait for a breather and go to the right one next) just sit there by the edge of the boss's hitbox and BANG. I had the evil eye appear on me once, but mostly he doesn't show up at all. If done correctly no bombs are needed.

And what about getting other stages than Brazil as second?
Whenever this happens I suicide as soon as Brazil starts later on - this way the turrets with the bonuses will not fire those large bullets in your face and the path is free to collect the 10K Cz's.
It's one life less, but at least no restart and no credit lost. The game always rapes me off one life before the end of stage 6 anyway ...

Wow, looks like you've all been really at this one while I've been off in "dont have a goddamn computer" land. Hint, NEVER take one of these things to a repair place on the weekend. That's what I've found. Not around here anyway.

As for my own scores, hmmm, wether or not I go through the game again, not sure. Frankly, I'd gotten a little bored of it before I took the computer down, and still dont really feel like playing it. Much as I like Psikyo, I dont focus on their games all that well for very long; the scoring is always very mindless and I get bored fast. I like their games, but I've never sat through them long enough to FINISH one of them. Instead, without the PC, I sat around playing Eschatos over and over and over and over and over and over again for the past 3 or 4 days until I finally finished it, so THAT game's stages are currently burned into my memory. I'll likely continue to play that for awhile, for now.

EDIT:

Oooooooooooooorrrrrr, the idiots at the DAMN STUPID IDIOT PLACE didnt fix a goddamn thing and the machine is utterly unchanged. This is why I haaaaaaaaaaate taking any PC to a tech place: I've yet to run into one that ISNT incompetent.
Well, might not be uploading a score due to AGAIN having to deal with FUN computer repair.
I swear, I'm THIS close to just taking the goddamn thing outside and running it over with the car. MANY TIMES.

EDIT AGAIN: Well wont take AS long as I'd thought to finish the repair (they sorta half did it.... yeah), but is still gonna take me all damn night, likely. I may yet get another score uploaded in the next week. Maybe.

Done the hard way. Managed to get most bonuses at 10k in Brazil, but outdone by the sheer number of bullets. And no bombs left by Stage 6. Bah!

Haven't had Grunthos, Dam, gmintyfresh or coffejoerx's submissions yet. Not sure we'll see Sel Feena or DigitalDuck this game sadly. That would've been 15 players total. If we keep getting new players joining each month it's going to get interesting indeed.

I'm hoping I can at least hold on to second, not sure about the 1CC yet, still dying at Stage 10 with alot weaker scores. Hopefully get some credits in on Monday night and see it through for the 3 point bonus.

EDIT: Had a few credits.. i've improved my pb, died on the final boss, but still no 1CC.

Improved scoring on STAGE 6 boss. Destroy all 9 parts of the boss individually without bombing for greater score.
