Is this Volume 3?

Postby Ash on Thu Dec 08, 2005 8:53 am

Will Issue 19 be known as Volume 3 Issue 1 or Volume 2 Issue 7 or is the whole idea of volumes being scrapped?

Also: I've said it before but it won't hurt to say it again. We NEED binders.

It was confusing enough when they added volume numbers... now you want issue 19 to be known as volume 3 issue 1 or New Retro Gamer issue 1, or issue 19b...

To be honest I'd prefer the "easy-to-remember" issue 19 tag. However I certainly agree with needing binders!

I always thought that volumes should really be done on an annual basis (like the fortnightly MacUser) or not at all. I don't think it would really benefit RG to start faffing about with "volumes", but it perhaps would be beneficial to forget that they ever existed.

I hated the volumes idea - Its so much clearer just doing plain Issue numbers.

I've never liked it when mags go with volume... Most of them put 13 issues in a year anyway, which fudges the numbers a bit (two volumes = 26 and not 24 etc).

I'm happy with the iss 19 numbering.

I agree, the volume idea for the old RG just sucked big time. Much better with just the issue 19 tag!

No volumes! I hate it! A plain old issue number is all you need...

That's what we've got now... LOAD 19 on the issue (and the spine) out this week, and next issue page says "LOAD 20"...

Volumes suck

Postby Quaid on Sat Dec 10, 2005 8:10 pm

Guys,

After careful considerion of... six seconds, we have abolished the 'volume' system for Retro Gamer.

I hate it when magazines try to number themselves in this way and it's always totally confusing – I know, I had to go through the RG back issues pile!

As you may have noticed, the current issue of Retro Gamer is marked as "Load 19", so that's how it will continue, with "Load 20" on the way in January.
