Adam Ant

Postby mohicankid on Mon Nov 14, 2011 9:48 am

I've always been a fan of 8o's music, as its what i grew up with, but i remember as a young child, being especialy drawn to Adam Ant, the music, which was drum heavy, the excentric dress style, his singing style which was unique for its time and the general look of his video's always caught my attention as well as my imagination, and as ive grown up, i have always enjoyed wailing along to Stand and Deliver, whilst i'm washing the pots, but all that being said, i was never more than an apreciator, i wouldn't have called myself a fan, so when I saw Boyo a few months back at GameFest and he asked me to go and see Adam Ant with him this past weekend, reluctantly i said yes, TBH i had no wish to see another Ageing pop star on a "i've spent all my money and realised i didn't pay my stamp so havn't got a state pension tour", and very nearly cancled a couple of times, the only real reason i went is becouse its been over two years since i properly spent any time with Boyo and it was simply an excuse to catch up!

well how wrong was i? the first song he sang was shaky at best and i didnt recognise it, and Ant even looked a little unsure on stage, but after that he just got stronger as the night went on! singing some new songs which will be on his new album in the new year between belting out the classics, it was a fantastic show, he's put on a bit of weight, and his face is almost unrecognisable as the Adam Ant i rememberd, but his voice? well i would say it sounded better! he can still hit all the notes, and if you heard the remdition of prince charming he sang as his first encore, you would swear you were listening to him on TOTP in the 80's! :)
if you get a chance, see him, i bought a t-shirt and i will be buying the album in january!

Adam Ant, a true blast from the past and an absaloute fcking legend live! :)

Stand and Deliver is the first song I ever bought :D

I like most of the stuff they did, and they were very popular at school.

 Recently transfered lot of the bands best stuff to my MP3 player, after buying the CD.

My sister was a huge Ant fan at the time, she kept the albums where as i got the singles on vinyl.

Did'nt he 'loose the plot' few years ago? throw a car part through a pub window, get chased by a gang, who cornered him down an alley where he drew a starting pistol on them? (he was wearing camo.gear at the time as well). :?

His mental health issues are well documented, one of the reasons he's been reluctant to tour on any regular basis, just the odd concert here and there.

Glad to hear he's still got the voice, I'm looking forward to seeing what he does next if he's releasing new material.

Didn't much like his Friend or Foe stuff, but Dirk Wears White Sox and Kings of the Wild Frontier are great, especially the latter with its tribal percussion. So few musicians make use of that, the only one I can really compare it to thematically is Kate Bush with her Hounds of Love album.

He was my idol as a kid, I did the whole tricorn hat and white stripe thing.

Ant Music is one of my favourite '80s pop songs and the double sleeve Prince Charming was one of the first singles I had bought for me. Great to hear he's still sounding good and performing. His life appears to be a little more stable these days too. :D

I always had a soft spot for Adam Ant especially after seeing him in the 'Stand and Deliver' video

Glad to hear he can still cut it on a live performance.

See also Amanda Donohoe in that one.

We went out in fancy dress as 80's pop stars for my mates stag do a few months back. I went as Adam Ant, although everyone under 25 who saw me seemed to think I was dressed as Jack fecking Sparrow.

I met him at a signing in the 90's, just before he went doolally and was trying to make a comeback.....seemed a thoroughly nice bloke!

Used to love all the videos...I miss all those '80s style videos with the storylines (or at least a bit of imagination)...

I always liked Adam and the Ants. They emerged just as I was starting to take a proper interest in pop music in the late 70s and early 80s when I was in my teens.

There's a great homage to Adam and the Ants on a DVD which also happens to include homages to Blake's 7 and the ITV World of Sport Wrestling that frequented TV around the same time:

The DVD is called 'Blake's Junction 7' but also includes 'Ant Muzak'. I found it amusing if nothing else! ;-)

Great stuff from Adam Ant. Remember he had 3 UK number 1's. 'Prince Charming', 'Stand and Deliver' and 'Goody Two Shoes'. He later moved into acting. I think he even went out with Heather Graham at one time(lucky s*d!). Glad that he has recovered from his mental health issues some what. I do remember watching a Channel 4 documentary about him a couple of years ago.
