'Prank Patrol' on Kids Tv(BBC) this morning had a 'Big' style fortune teller set up for a prank in a warehouse, however the ware house had numbers cabs rigged to have special effects such as shortcircuit and little squib style explosions

These included in Electro coin style cabs Puzzle Bobble, World Heroes 2/3 and Marvel vs Capcom and also non working/ non switched on Space Invaders and Space Invaders pt2 cabs among others...

Chuck (US geek spy sitcom) series 2 episode 5 - Chuck Versus Tom Sawyer, features extensive videogame plotting, with world records held and attempts at beating them, from classic era to present day. Prime focus is on Missile Command.

Yet again, the Americans rewrite history and gloss over the UK record holder ;)

The show might not make much sense if you don't know its back story or characters, but having watched them all I found it hugely entertaining on several levels. Parody, respect, comedy, love - its all in there.

A film I've just remembered called D.A.R.Y.L (I think it stood for Data Analysing Robot Youth Lifeform...) featured a robot pretending to be a wee boy playing Pole Position on an Atari at supersonic speeds...is this actually possible in the game, or was it just speeded up for the film?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlDYoATH_jI

I've just watched the clip there a wee bit closer...bugger me, is that an Atari 800xl they're using? Someone donated one of them to me. With Pole Position! :D

Oh, and a few episodes of CSI have aparently got parts of speccy loading screen sounds for various computer effects.

Watched 'Family Guy' the other night in a episode called 'Meet the Qagmires' where Peter & Brian goes back in time of 1984.
Peter was playing 'menstrual Ms Pacman' & half way playing Ms Pacman says 'WHAT!!' & the Ghosts backing off saying 'ok ok'

I've not read all 15 pages of replies, so apologies in advance for any repetition.

Electric Dreams -BBC Micro
DARYL - Atari 800XL
Wierd Science - Memotech MTX 512
(not sure if this is right - but sem to remember a film from the 80's called Cloak and Dagger which featured the Atari 5200 prominently)
South park gave mention to Kenny owning a Colecovision - think it was the Towely episode.
War Games - seem to remember Galaga arcade machine near the start - again I could be wrong.
Rocky III and Tron - too many to mention.

In (500) Days of Summer, a cocktail cab is shown in a few scenes. You never see the screen, but from the sound effects it is definitely Donkey Kong.

In Funny People, Seth Rogen plays games on his iPhone... first iPhone game appearance in a movie perhaps?

Good resurrection!

I'll add Wayne's World - the Noah's Arcade ad shows gameplay from Sonic The Hedgehog, and in the Noah interview Wayne asks him what the difference is between Pac Man and Ms Pac Man (Noah explains that she has a bow :D )

In fact, it's BETA gameplay from Sonic the Hedgehog, and I think it's all the BETA footage that exists.

Anyway, while none of these feature the actual games, the anime Shinryaku! Ika Musume likes to do parodies:

Image

Shinryaku! Ika Musume, season 1, episode 4. Columns.

Image

Shinryaku! Ika Musume, season 1, episode 10. Streets of Rage.

Shinryaku! Ika Musume, season 2, episode 7. Golden Axe.

Image

Shinryaku! Ika Musume, season 2, episode 8. Bonanza Bros.

Also this old video of mine, featuring The World God Only Knows, season 1, episode 12. With pretty much everything in it.

That's your games in anime roundup for today.

^Gonna have to get me a "Cream cast" for Christmas.

One I always remember is the Operation Wolf cab in Scanners 2, more because of the horrible, fake blippy sound fx they use for it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHWhn-686Ag

:o

In the last season of Breaking Bad, Jesse's playing Rage on his 360, only as a light gun shooter(!)

It's many years since I've seen it but I'm certain Depeche Mode have a Shinobi cab in their tour documentary, 101.

In the second series of I'm Alan Partridge, AP stops off at a motorway services and plays The House Of The Dead 3 with a child (only have the first series on DVD so can't be certain but possibly the sound fx of HOTD3 were altered?)

I know the Commodore 64 appears in a few of the Police Academy films, but I'm sure in one of them, the arcade version of Paperboy is actually being played on a C64, possibly in (the godawful) Mission To Moscow???? It's been many years, so I'm probably getting the sequels all mixed up here, just remember seeing it at the flicks and it was BAAAAAAD.
