Anyone got it?

How good is it , and is it worth the money ($14.99)?

Thanks in advance

Depends. If you're technically incompetent then it makes running games easy, but its just a front end for Vice really. You can achieve much the same results with free software should you have the time and inclination to tinker a little.

Unlike Amiga Forever which takes much of the pain out of Amiga emulation (as well as giving you a legal licensed OS), the C64 isn't that hard to use since just about all games will run on the same configuration.

If you've got $15 spare and you want to support Cloanto, by all means buy it.

I never found much use for it, easy to just find an emulator and some games. Lemon64 should be a good place to start if you want some advice on which emu to go for.

WinVICE is probably the best bet for someone new to C64 emulators, the only things to watch out for is the True Drive Emulation option from the Options menu (which needs to be enabled for quite a few disk-based games) and the sound settings if the PC being used is getting on a bit since if memory serves they default to one of the more CPU-intensive modes.

After that, it's pretty much just a case of setting joystick port 2 up with whatever controller is connected to the PC and then dragging and dropping.

Indeed, a great emulator.

Yeah , I use WinVice and CCS for any games that don't run on the first.

Also the graphics (the colours displayed) can look very different between the 2 emulators.

Thanks for the replies guys; I've never had any problems with the emulator side of things, I just wondered if the front-end used was special enough to spend $15 on.

You should give GameBase64 a go, version 9 is the most current one, released a month or so back, it's a 5gb torrent download but well worth it..

As for the colours.. open the c64.cfg file in ccs64 and replace the following lines with these, should give you colours something more like a real C64

$RGBCOLOR0=050606
$RGBCOLOR1=ffffff
$RGBCOLOR2=ae2b0d
$RGBCOLOR3=99ffff
$RGBCOLOR4=d95bff
$RGBCOLOR5=6ad540
$RGBCOLOR6=4f32e5
$RGBCOLOR7=ffff45
$RGBCOLOR8=ed8945
$RGBCOLOR9=795307
$RGBCOLOR10=ef839f
$RGBCOLOR11=575753
$RGBCOLOR12=a3a7a7
$RGBCOLOR13=b7fbbf
$RGBCOLOR14=a397ff
$RGBCOLOR15=c8d1d6

For WinVice I use the CCS64 pallette which you need to manually select by going to video settings, use external pallete then go into your WinVice folder/C64 and select the ccs64.vpl file
