So this is a remake of the 1980's BBC film which was a adaption of Jane Goldmans book 'Woman in Black' Skeptic Solictor goes to stay in a Haunted House in the middle of the lake after unmarried female owner dies.. Local curse that all the kids used to die in town and that locked Childrens room opened at night and the Lady in black would come for him?

Yep, definitely based on that. Never seen the BBC adaption or read the book myself though.

I did like the setting for the film - it reminded me of a place I used to go to called Shell Island when I was a cadet. You'd have to wait until the tide was out before you could get there.

Watched episode 1 of Consolevania last night, found some of the 'humour' ("The Legend") a tad cringeworthy but really liked the excellent reviews, The Siren and Bujingai ones in particular, don't think I've ever seen such love and care lavished on game reviews on a TV show before.

The Muppets - took my son as cover..

Great is all I can say - very corny and incredibly self aware. Plus it has Fart shoes. Even Jack Black didnt ruin it.

The book was written by Susan Hill. Jane Goldman adapted the current film version. Nigel Kneale(he of Quatermass fame) did the 1989 TV version.

I do remember having to watch the TV film version of it in an English class. That was rated 15(I don't think 12 was allowed for videos then). It is more of a psychological horror story. However, there is one scene that does make people jump out of their skin, mainly because it comes as a complete surprise. I don't think Susan Hill liked the TV version of it, as it made too many changes to the story.

I have read a few reviews of the new film and they have said that it is a mediocre film at best. Apparently, Suasuan Hill likes this version more.

Johnny English: Reborn.

A mediocre film with some flashes of real comedy. The rooftop chase is very clever, as is the cooking scene that plays during the credits.

I really think that Rosamund Pike should fire her agent, though.

Yeah, caught that on telly meself; hadn't seen any of Wes Anderson's output til now, but found this to be hugely enjoyable. My only gripe is that I would have preferred the voice talent to be all brits but hey ho.

Finally watched American Horror Story. Thought it was ace. Highlights were -

- the first two episodes (the opening scene with the two kids going into the basement; the school bully being lured into the basement to be attacked by the baby/animal creature; and the attack from the murder house psychos was great),
- the Halloween double - watched back to back was intense!
- the Piggy Man episode.
- The school massacre was really well done.

Never suspected Violet was dead after the overdose!

Watching the mum eating the bowl of brains still turns my stomach, mind, as well as frying up the pancreas. Tasty. Same with Tate killing one half of the gay couple with the fire poker. Ouch.

Senator looks like Paddy Pantsdown (Ashdown).Early days yet, but not gripped me so far.

Broke open my Karate Kid DVD trilogy last night and watched the first film. I've never watched any of these before but I really enjoyed it and can't wait to get onto The Karate Kid II.

I've noticed that The Next Karate Kid is never included in these sets though. Must be really bad then I take it? Only having Mr Miyagi from the original trilogy in the film does set alarm bells ringing.

I either hear really good or really bad things about the remake, nothing in between  . I'll probably watch 'em all anyway (including the remake) just to see the series all the way through.

You've got me wanting to watch it now:) I remember the book being evil as she(Lady in Black) drowned the dog in the Marsh, taking the only other living thing away from him, and driving him insane in the house... I guess the books ending would be too depressing, espically as I remember watching it on Christmas Eve, didn't she kill his wife and baby, on the boating lakein the book? I must admit when he woke up at night and the 'Lady in Black' was over him holding him down made me jump, I vaguely remember the BBC adaption the guy set the Solictors office on fire..

Quatermass and the Pit is another Hammer Horror I never watched, I think most of the Hammer Horrors would be 12 but stuff like Vincent Prince's 'Tomb of Legaia' and Twice Told Tales would be 15 or possibly 18 as just forbidding and evil
