Most people seem to like it.

Me and the other Alien fans on an Alien forum I visit all like it apart from about two people (out of something like 10 people so far), and IMDB (which is scored by "Real" people) has it at 8.3 (I gave it an 8).

It's more like Alien than Aliens, so more horror/suspense than action, though there is quite a bit of action.

I didn't mind Noomi Rapace.

The camera interference isn't something I've ever really thought much about, as they use radio waves, which are blocked by rock and suchlike. Radio waves are a universal constant and no amount of technology will magically make them work better. I suppose you can only increase the frequency so much before they become unusable for communication, or we could do it ourselves now.

As for the Spoilers (Read at own risk as they are biggies):
At he end of the film, when the Promethean climbs into the pilot seat I figured he would die there as the ship is clearly the one they discover in years to come when John Hurt gets all fudged up and as such he would have chest-bursted in the chair in order to be found by the Nostromo crew.
And yet he dies elsewhere, after being faceraped by Cthulhu's baby?
Am I mistaken or is this a change of resolution decided upon by Ridley Scott?

Secondly, the whole Weyland subplot seemed wholly pointless. He was on the ship and wanted to be healed/saved...big deal. They all planned to speak to the aliens about it anyway and I don't see how his request for Charlie to be infected would have achieved this? Seemed a weak reveal and a lacklustre followthrough.

Your first one:
It's a different ship and a different planet. The planet in Alien is LV-426, in Prometheus it's LV-233 (I think that was the number). David even said there were loads of ships on LV-233, and they flew off in a second one at the end.

Second thing:

I'm not sure how the infection was supposed to help, but maybe they were experimenting to see what happened. This is "The Company" after all. "Crew Expendable", and all that.

I wonder why they would use Radio waves then when they mapped using far different forms of commucational links which would surely be far more reliable and fast....silly.

I just read that on IMDB after posting lol, thanks mate, makes sense now :)

It just felt really weak and pointless is all, no sense of danger or evil.

You mean the laser mapping drones? I guess they still use radio waves, but the resolution is very low compared to an AV signal. It's just sending something like the equivalent of a few lines of TV signal each pulse, and there will be error correction, etc on it. I don't think the low res outline of the cave is using much bandwidth and will easily cope with a bad connection.

I think radio waves are the only option. Of course they could have had a small relay station to boost the signal for the mappers, just like a wireless router can act as a repeater.

I did think it a bit odd at times when [spoiler]things were happening on the monitors (like a load of dead bodies), and no-one seemed particularly interested, and when the two guys went missing, they didn't just get David to quickly search through the last hour of video at high speed to see what happened to them. I watched two more episode of 'Game of Thrones'. Just one more episode to go(it has let to be broadcast in the UK). The city siege episode was very good.

I then caught up with more of 'The Good Wife'. The season finale is next week. Season 3 has probably not had the same impact as the first two seasons, but it was still pretty good.

As for Prometheus, I downloaded Mark Kermode's podcast for the review. He liked it - with a few reservations. I think that next week, I might go and see it.

I watched the finale of season 2 of 'Game of Thrones'. Amazing TV. Now, I can't wait for season 3!

I then watched more of 'Awake'! Great stuff from Jason Issacs.

I then watched the remake of 'Rear Window', with Christopher Reeve and Daryl Hannah. No, it could never compare to the original(with Grace Kelly and Jimmy Stewart, plus the master Alfred Hitchcock directing), but it is unique in its own way. The use of high tech equipment(mobile phones, cameras and computers, etc.) make it distinctive.

Last week I saw Avengers and Prometheus (the latter in 3D).

I thought Avengers was excellent. It never took itself seriously (which is necessary for a movie like this) and I thought there were some excellent performances from the main cast (especially Mark Ruffalo as Dr Banner). What impressed me the most about the film was how it managed to juggle having so many 'main' characters. This is usually a difficult thing to do and can often make a film a complete mess (eg. Spiderman 3) but in Avengers you never felt that any of the main characters were being brushed aside, overlooked or shoe-horned in. The relationships between the different characters were also handled very well.

As for Prometheus, I was really disappointed. When I came out at the end I thought about how it lacked the claustrophobic tension and atmosphere of alien, how the characters were less dynamic and less interesting than those in alien, how the crew was less believable, etc. But, I accepted that I was perhaps judging the film unfairly - it's not meant to be like Alien or even directly related to it - it's best to look at it as a different type of film set in the same universe. So, with that in mind, I reassessed it...and again came to the conclusion that it just wasn't very good. Aside from the great visuals and score, and a great performance from Michael Fassbender, there wasn't much else that was good or interesting about it. The first half was excellent but the second half just fell apart (too many characters, none of them really standing out and most seeming pointless).

And a quick word on '3D' cinema, given that this was my first experience of it; dreadful. I barely even noticed anything being 3D, and instead I just felt nauseas watching it. Won't be doing that again!

Last night I watched 'The Road', which is based on the Cormac McCarthy novel. Very bleak stuff, about a boy and his Father in a post apocalyptic world trying to survive. It was okay, but nothing special.

I then watched more of 'Touch'. I think there is only two more episodes to go of this season.

Recently watched District 9 and the remake of True Grit, both of which I enjoyed.

Also watched the first episode of Deadwood last night after finally receiving the complete series boxset.

Last night I watched the latest edition of 'Mad Men'. Oh dear! What a tearjerker of an episode! The major plot point was revealed and with a pretty unpleasant outcome. Only one more episode left in this season.

I then watched some more of 'Alcatraz'. I think I have a few more episodes still on my Sky + box.

I went the flicks to see the Road and really liked it, but my goodness it was grim! I hadn't read the book but had an idea what it'd be like - it post post-apocalyptic to the extreme! But it was a more realistic stab at what post-civilization would be like I think.

I saw District 9 at the flicks and loved it, apart from the end which i thought was a bit out of step with the previous hour of the film.
