Console Combat - Retro Community Gathering in Manchester, 25-26th July 2009

Console Combat is a two day retro gaming event that will be taking place on the weekend of 25-26th July 2009 at the Lass O'Gowrie Pub in the Heart of Manchester (http://www.thelass.co.uk), home of the monthly "Computer Club" gaming evenings.

The event is intended to be a laid back gathering for the retro gaming community, giving visitors the chance to play a selection of classic arcade machines, 8-bit home computers and consoles, whilst sampling a selection of fine ales and good food.

We will be running a selection of competitions throughout the weekend and will also be hosting the Homebrew Coding Geekend, an informal discussion forum for independent programmers from across the UK.

Console Combat is being co-organised by the people responsible for past and future classic gaming events such as Retro Reunited, Retrovision and Byte Back, so you can be assured that it will be of the highest possible standard!

Tickets cost just £4.50 (including your first drink free!) and are available online at http://www.consolecombat.co.uk

There are just 75 tickets available for this event so buy early to avoid disappointment. Please also take a look at the site for details of the competitions being run, including the Battle of the 8-bits and a Retro Gaming Pub Quiz!

A trip to the "Videogame Nation" exhibition at the nearby Urbis is also planned for the morning of Sunday 26th.

I will be helping at this event with the organisation of two competitions:

Battle of the 8-bits is a revised version of the comp I was planning to do at Byte Back, and is designed to have 7 teams representing computers/consoles from the 8-bit era. More info here: http://www.consolecombat.co.uk/comp_8bit.html

And I'm also arranging a Retro Gaming Pub Quiz to take place Saturday evening, which will include picture and music rounds. If you have any suggestions for questions I could ask (even if you're not attending the event) please submit them at http://www.consolecombat.co.uk/comp_rgpq.html

Finally if you decide to come to this event and want to go to the Urbis on the Sunday, please let me know either via PM or posting on this thread and I'll collate a list and see if I can get us discounted entry.

Hmmmm, looks like my Retro Reunited pub quiz isn't going to be as special as I thought (especially as Cheggar's can't come) :(

Sorry mate, didn't know you were planning something like that for RR... Maybe we can collaborate on the one at this event and you can use it as a test run for the bigger event....

I had only come up with a title mate, so I can't really claim it in the name of Israel :D
I'll probably have a chat with you at this event though and run a few ideas by you. Just to use a bit of your experience ;)

Well in that case, maybe I could co-ordinate the quiz at your event (you'll have enough other stuff on your plate after all!)

You should be able to use Console Combat to test out a few ideas and refine them, like I did with the mini Byte Back I did. It's a good opportunity without you haveing to worry about the venue organisation etc, plus there will be plenty of people topromote the event to there too hopefully!

Wow!

Very very keen for this.

The Lass is my favourite pub & it would be nice to meet some of the people off the forum.

I'll obviously have to run it by the other half & the little 'un 1st though, but it sounds like a great plan.

In fact I think I'll do a recky mission in the Lass this lunchtime & play some R-Type.

Probably... You'll need to contact Gareth at the venue to confirm this. Otherwise just buy them online as we'll be keeping a list of everyone that has bought them anyway, so we can check your name off that.
