The depressing amount of young people I see smoking, especially the 11-14 years olds around my way.

is that one of those sites you pay a set fee per bid, but then the lowest "unique" bid wins?
so in theory, yes it's possible. in reality, not much chance.

Anybody that gets suckered into thinking those things are real deserves to be ripped off because if it's too good to be true, it usually is.

A thing that's been annoying me lately are birds like Pigeons and Magpies swooping low in front of the car when they have all that free space up above to fly about in :| . If you have to hit them then you have to hit them but I don't want dead Pigeon splattered all over my front grille.

Think the way it works is you pay for each bid you put in and when it reaches a certain price the last bidder gets it.

So not really £2

Always wondered how that worked. Never going to login to find out, as frankly if I wanted to chuck money at sod all, there are so many more pleasant ways to do it.

Well, you're just as likely to on a free as a paid, but seeing as that chance is virtually zero anyway ;)

It would be nice if people who went off to university studied academic subjects. Namely law, foreign languages, architecture, Latin, Ancient Greek, medicine, etc. But hey-ho, we have to get 50% of everyone into a university and stuff the consequences!

Likewise, I think that getting rid of Polytechnics was a massive mistake. That screwed up a lot of engineering and technical courses.

Telling everyone they should go to uni was a mistake. Many aren't cut out for it, they'd be better off just getting a job or having lower expectations with a college course.

I tried for Classics, Latin, Classical Greek and Theology, didn't get in. I can safely say that I wouldn't have coped in that area and am glad I ultimately wound up in Computing.

I can safely tell you that it is because students get the "free money" for at least a year that a good percentage go.

I agree completely Antiriad2097. The UK has the highest university drop-out in the Western world. Mainly because we send people who are not suitable for university there. It is a big problem.

People have to realise that university is for academically minded people, but there are other ways to get on in the world. Vocational courses or having an apprenticeship scheme might help out people more.

A lot employers want people with a degree. Why? Are a teacher, an architect, an engineer, a doctor, a lawyer - NO! So let's get things in perspective. Yes, it is quite likely you'll need some form of training(shorthand for a journalist or a secretary, or a SIA license for a security guard); but you are never going to convince me or anyone else, that 50% of people are going to go off to university.

I would add that, I think Computing was probably better done by the old Polytechnics that the UK used to have. You would probably do a 2 year vocation course and then some work experience or apprenticeship scheme with a big company. It was better suited to some people.
