There were around 40 people in there on that vid and it was OK if a little cramped. We're hoping to make use of either the corridors outside the unit (it is in a large building with around 40 units in) or one of the adjacent empty units for a bit of breathing room and an area for the consoles and general lounging about.

I have to say though that the coziness is all part of the appeal as it brings back nostalgic feelings of the days when arcades were rammed full of people!

Would be interested in your findings. Thompson9980 is kindly giving me and Bez (the chap who had the discussion with the paranoid crazy guy in the lass) a lift down too. Would make it easier if we were all staying in the same place!

Looking forward to this event, nice to have something retro to look forward to after R3play.

Another vote for this hotel from me:
http://exeterhotels.jurysinns.com/

Its showing at £65 a night, which isn't unreasonable.

Its more or less right on the town centre and the hotel also has a bar. Its also a massive hotel with plenty of rooms and a midday check out. Only downer is there is no free on site parking, but there is a NCP opposite where the hotel will validate your parking ticket to give you a parking discount.

If I was able to go, it probably wouldn't be to compete as I'm not actually particularly good at most games! Can I go just to play for fun and hang out and stuff? :)

That's the whole idea.
Like Funspot, there's a tourney to compete in and the remainder of the time, you can just do your own thing. Some will opt to play their specialist title and aim for their personal best, then mingle and watch the others play and possibly pick up some techniqies. Just like the arcades BITD
On a side note about the 'crowding' at Arcadebarn, that looks pretty authentic. Some of the arcades in Southport for example, were just like that. 20-30 cabs, a change booth and a vending machine. Bliss . :D

How do you know you're not very good when you don't know what games they will be? That's the beauty of the competition - nobody knows if there will be games they are good at or have even played before. At Funspot I'd never heard of or played the majority of the tournament games, and yet I still finished in the top 50 of the main tournament and the top 30 of the Manufacturer's Challenge, out of nearly 150 entrants, and I'm crap at games... I even clocked up the 14th best score on Cheeky Mouse, a game I'd never played before the event!

There will be plenty of opportunity to play the other 30-odd games casually and hang out as well. The event will close at 8pm on Saturday so we can all go out on the p!ss... :D

In the end if you want to come along, pay your £15 and not enter the tournament that's your choice, but why on earth wouldn't you take the chance to try and win £100? :?
