Thats better Keith, a bit of a pitch.

As for seeing my name in print, I have a printer for that ;) And as much as I would love to contribute or offer my assistances, I am a little too busy at the moment, but may well consider it for the future.

Oh, when are you dropping the issue 2 PDF to 99p?

£2.99 is the lowest it will go I'm afraid, the 99p was a mistake on my part because I was messing with the site structure and changing things at the time you bought it

Fair dues, will have to get some individual testimony before I shell out £3 on a PDF, I am sure you understand.

I'd suggest reading back, there's a lot of good comments and support for the issue in this very thread :D

Its still £3 for a PDF though, however you want to view it.

If you dropped the price you might find more people taking you up on it, no? Its not like you need the money to cover anything (bandwidth doesn't cost that much!) and just screams of greed to me if I am being honest.

I get the extortionate price on the printed copy as I am fully aware of printing costs here in the UK, but £3 for a PDF?

£3 for a PDF is easily comparable to other ebooks, though a 'Mastertronic' £2.99 would be better suited ;)

It is £2.99

RR we looked at the prices of similar books across the web and settled on something that isn't too expensive and well below the price of everything else we saw available including the likes of Amazons Kindle Store. We very happy with the price we settled on and with the number sold. Considering the new look, writing and design quality I'm very happy with what we have to offer and the general out pouring of comments has been very, very positive. We also give the PDF away free with printed copies to add to that the first 2 printed issues are on offer until Monday despite us running out of the discounted stock a few days ago. I want people to see what we have done and hope it will tempt a lot more readers.

There are also other considerations beyond bandwidth, we currently have 3 books in the works that aren't PN quarterly (details at a later date). The writers and designers don't do this for free (not everyone is like me and wouldn't expect them to be, who hasn't so much have taken a penny for the work I've done!) and those print jobs on other books in turn will require a large amount to pay for upfront. Every penny really does help, we need fans support. In time I aim to have a full range of books of every system known to man!

There is pretty much next to no margin on the regular print runs (not to mention the fact postage is free on orders to the UK) which you seem to understand and everything we do make goes straight back into PN (I do this as a hobby not a profit making business). We have some massive news coming right after Xmas that isn't book related that the so called "greed" is helping to pay towards. Again if we were greedy why aren't the issues filled with advertisements to earn money? It's 100 pages of retro content, not 90 with 10 pages of ads!

Edit - I take part of that back, there's a single page ad in PN1 to say we do free UK shipping

It's great to hear your opinions and comments but I have to ask why don't you get involved in something again? You seem to have a lot of knowledge on the subject, a skill at writing and there's plenty of opportunity at the moment, not just PN (though we'd be happy to put stuff up on the U-Publish side if you wanted or even look at article submissions). Failing that you produced a mag before, you could always try again. It's not easy to take this sort of thing on but in the last year I've been involved in 5 different publications all done in my spare time with a period of 2 months solid where I was up till 3/4am every night including weekends yet I still have to be in work each day at 7am, if you have the skill and time why not tempt something of your own? Show us how it should be done :D

PN has had a lot of love, work and effort put into it I'm more than happy with what everyone has achieved so far. I'm sorry if you feel it isn't up to your standards but we are working to improve with each issue which I think is apparent if you compare the two, things will and are getting better.

Never said anything of the sort, what I said was the £3 (Sorry £2.99) is a lot for a PDF, and I stand by that comment. 69p / 99p is the price point where it becomes a virtually instantaneous impulsive purchase, whereas anything over this is more of an informed purchase. You only have to look at the App store to see how this works to the benefit of the product.

It's great to hear your opinions and comments but I have to ask why don't you get involved in something again?

Who said I wasn't? I am loosely involved in RetroFusion, helping Chris out with certain things, and I am looking at getting more involved after the launch of Issue 3 with the digital side of things.
As always with me, there are things I am looking into personally, but like all good ideas its impossible to do single handedly, unless of course, you live alone with no missus and kids and can afford to stay up until 3am/4am for two months solid! Unfortunately I am not in that situation, and I am also back at college in a few weeks doing a HNC in electronics, so will have even less time available.

But yes, who knows what will happen after xmas? ;)

Keith, i'll keep this simple.

If you have a problem come out and say it ffs! Get it out in the open and move on, instead of crying to whoever you can to try and get me to "stop" whatever it is I am supposed to be doing.

You are making a publication for public consumption so expect comments to come your way good and bad, it's the way it works. Been there, done that, as you know (oh and it was not charged for by the way, it was free - you may want to get your facts straight before you moan about me to someone else, it makes you look stupid).

I have purchased PN01 and NES BIT 1 for that matter and would like to think that I am therefore able, as a paying customer, to make comment on them and their contents, regardless of whether you agree with what I say or not. If you don't like these types of comment (which are incidentally constructive and not just - "it's crap") then you are in the wrong game fella, plain and simple.

You have started something that may well become something big, but carry on the way you are and you WILL f@ck it up with your childish immature attitude to whoever disagrees with you. That's not an opinion, it's a fact. I am not just talking about me here either. Banning someone from purchasing more issues of your publication? I thought the idea was to engage the readership not to alienate it?

You are not the only one on here who is so protective over their own work that they come across like a right f@cking idoit, and I am sure you won't be the last.

Oh and finally, don't take it all so personally, it will make you ill.

Choooo, Chooooo

Without getting directly involved here..I think your comments in the past few posts to me lean to be hijacking and condescending and belittling their publication, and to bring out some private comment you've received out into a public forum only adds your continual insults to the people at pixel nation which to me is trolling disguised as positive criticism , if you don't like what they have done then simply don't buy into it, or not happy with pricing structure then move on..no one has complained about that other than you..I'm not siding with anyone here, but from what I've read from your posts I felt I had to speak out in their defence, I hope you your not subjected to the line of fire you've been giving when your articles are under to microscope when retro fusion issue 3 arrives.. Competition is a good thing you know

Probably best not to mate, as you can only comment on what you see and is, as always, not the full picture.

hijacking and condescending and belittling their publication

Sorry, when did I do that? I simply pointed out that £2.99 was a lot for a PDF, thats all.

and to bring out some private comment you've received out into a public forum only adds your continual insults to the people at pixel nation which to me is trolling disguised as positive criticism

I would not mind but the comments were not even directed AT me. Hell, we are all adults, if someone has something to say then it should be done directly with none of this playground stupidity. As for continual insults Darran, care to highlight them for me? Are you sure you are reading the same thread? As for trolling, unlike some I simply do not have the time to "troll". I purchased something and I have something to say about it. Where is the problem exactly? At no point did I say the publications were no good, at no point did I say I was not going to purchase more. Maybe some people need to read what is actually being said in messages before typing a response, no?

if you don't like what they have done then simply don't buy into it

Again, where did I say I didn't like what was produced?

I hope you your not subjected to the line of fire you've been giving when your articles are under to microscope when retro fusion issue 3 arrives

I wont, seeing as I have not written anything for it. And once again I have never mentioned anything about the quality of the articles in PN OR NES BIT.

Sorry, who is trolling here? You seem to be making this up as you go along as your "argument" has no foundation whatsoever it would seem LOL

Best to stay out of it really, I'd say, wouldn't you?

Just for the record, Simon has not contributed anything to this issue of Retro Fusion. He is looking at digital distribution of Retro Fusion for the future i.e. for next year and that is about it for now. Any views he is expressing to Keith in regards to PN are purely his views as he bought the book.

Not sure where you fit into this argument Darran?

Lorfarius, you said many moons ago before issue 2 was released that there was going to be a large Ultima history article. Looking through the thread I can't find any reference to it - did the article make it in or not?

It almost made it to issue 2 and meant to star in 3 issues as it was huge but then the writer gave up :( Thing is I LOVE the Ultima games, played them all to death (playing Ultima 7 again at the mo and the new release announcement is rocking my world!) and a huge fan but I want the article that covers them to be something special. I think I might just end up doing it myself if I can find the time but as a full and complete history with gorgeous backgrounds, screenshots etc.

One of the most impressive pieces I ever saw for the series was the Prima Official Strategy guide for Ultima 9 Ascension. The game was total ass hat but the guide had interviews and works about the virtues, history etc. Its well worth tracking down to read. I want to try and do the series justice.

Good news! The price drop we ran the other week was a huge success and after talking to a new printers have managed to slash the price again, this time for good. Both volumes can now be bought for £6.99 each including postage. I will keep trying to bring the price down, the idea of course is for as many people as possible to read each issue :D

http://pixel-nation.co.uk/index.php/online-store/product/144-pixel-nation-issue-2

In other news we have managed to snag exclusive looks at a couple of unreleased games, a GBA and PC title. One of our writers is doing both pieces (thanks Denis!) but the plan is also to take a lot of screenshots and video footage so there will be a decent online record available beyond the actual issue. Hoping to turn this into a regular feature with a decent look at a new unreleased game each issue.
