What PSP Games should I own?

Postby tachi on Mon Apr 02, 2012 6:49 pm

I've had a PSP for about 5 or so years and previously used it homebrewed for Emulation.
Stopped using it when I got the Dingoo and now obviously the Caanoo.
On Sunday I overwrote the Homebrew with official Firmware and have started buying games again.
So far have:
Final Fantasy: Crisis Core
Dungeon Siege: Throne of
Dungeons and Dragons: Tactics
Popolocrois
Astonishia Story (thanks in advance Shiftytigger)
Lord of Arcana
Pirates
Untold Legends 2

As you can see, mainly RPGs due to me finding the control scheme on other games really hard due to the lack of a second stick but please suggest anything I NEED to own :)

Good thread here to peruse at your leisure:

I'd say buy Everybody's Golf 1 or 2. Barely played anything else except Williams Pinball Classics.

On the Pinball front - Williams Pinball is available on PSN for £4.79 or something ridiculous.

I personally play most of the retro compilations

Capcom remixed/reloaded
Midway extended play
Taito Legends Power up
Powerstone collection

are my travelling companions.

This , in hindsight , would have been a great ' I'm going to GAMEs firesale and I should really look out for.....' thread.

Also enjoy

Tekken Dark resurrection
God Of War - Chains of Olympus
Vagrant Story (PSN)
Burnout Dominator
Pinball Dreams/Fantasies (PSN)
Space Shooter for 2 bucks (PSN Mini)
Killzone Liberation
Resistance Retribution.

Wasnt a fan of Monster hunter but thats just me being difficult.Have bought God of War 2 but not yet played it but the first one is a great instalment considering the machine it is on.Can't vouch for the GTA games as Im not a fan of them anyway (apart from the first).

Great choice with Popolocrois - a nice little simple rpg lite that is like a simple Grandia - (which was also on PSN but now i cant find it)

Only game I never got on with was StreetFighter Alpha MAx - just didnt like being limited to the stick for moves.

The retro update of TrailBlazer is awsome and very addictive as is Angry Birds.

Those are downloads, as for retail games Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and Little Big Aventure spring to mind.

Also if you like JRPG's try to hunt out Hexyz Force - a US copy might be abit hard to find though...

Also this is essential too, a strategy RPG again abit hard to track down but worth it

I played them on PS3 and found them a bit ho-hum.
I like my hack and slash games but they were such linear levels with no freedom to explore.
I'll certainly check some vids though so thanks for the suggest mate :)
Oh and yes, I do need a Wipeout don't I lol

Totally forgot about the recommendation threads thanks mate.
Everybody's Golf? I think I played it on PS3 and it was cool, will check it out :)

Thanks but I have all the retro games on my Caanoo which is why I sold all the compilations on the PS2 recently :)

I don't do beatemups on the PSP such as Tekken of Street Fighter as the pads plain old suck lol
Vagrant Story I have on PS1 download already but yeah, it rocks!
Burnouts are always good, will check it out!
Everyone is suggesting Pinball games so again, I shall compare them all :)
Space Shooter I've never heard of so will have a looksie.
Killzone Liberation I really hated first time around, not sure what it was as it played well but it totally rubbed me the wrong way!?
Same goes for Resistance but that was more due to the 3rd person weirdness of it all!
I also hate Monster Hunter. It takes 50 hours before you have enough good equipment to take on the missions necessary to get good equipment, catch22?
You mentioned Popolocrois in your PM and although I already have it I couldn't agree more, it is a nice rpg :)

Trailblazer was groovesome on the C64 so an update can only be a good thing lol but have Angry Birds on iPhone so will give it a miss :)
FF7:CC I have ta and have LBAdventure on PS3 so is it worth getting on PSP too do you think?
Oh and Yddra Union I saw mentioned a lot...hmm...

I haven't given it too much time yet, but from what i've played of 3rd Birthday, it's shaping up to be an absolute classic. :)

I mention Popolocrois so much it shows up on my phone as a recognised word now...

I mention it nearly as much as Power Drift but I have resolved my lack of that by playing the Yu Suzuki Works version and it has sated my desire.

Nice to see someone agreeing with me on Monster Hunter - I didnt even bother picking them up in the GAME sale at £1.99 each as Im not that much of a completist yet.

I just got given a PSP by my bro and have been picking up games - After Burner Black Falcon is cool.

This weekend I got Third Birthday very cheap, not played it yet and have no idea what it's about, anyone care to enlighten me as to whether it's worth bothering with?

No, it's not. It's a terrible game.

Because I'm a generous soul I'll take it off your hands for free

LocoRoco 1 & 2 are superb games that had me grinning from ear to ear all the way through. Wonderful games.

Been playing a fair amount of Motorstorm Arctic Edge recently. Was expecting it to be decent, it's actually bloody brilliant though and pretty much on par with the PS3 Motorstorm games. Has an absolutely ton of races and challenges to get through too. :)

Half Minute Hero is also top fun too.

And to echo what other people have said, Everybody's Golf 1 & 2. I don't even like real golf but I really enjoy those. :)
