It is indeed! And if I was unsure then all whooping and cheering on nasa TV would convince me.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Curiosity uncovers :D

On another space related note, Voyager 1 has passed through two of the three key stages of the Solar System. Next month it will be outside of the Heliosheath. 35 years old this year and still going strong.

What I love about that is if they're ever picked up on their journey we're going to be soooo embarrassed about our 70's technology.

Ahhh, but they won't because of the superior audio technology that is vinyl(or in the case of Voyager 1 - gold). The record that is on the probe - the aliens will love that. But, on the computer front, yeah, they probably won't be impressed.

Ha ha that's right! I remember the gold record. I wonder if it was in mono heh. There was some drawing of a naked man and woman on it waving and a few symbols to try and show what the human race were like. Sadly, the symbols are so obscure and tough to decipher that the only thing most aliens would get from it would be that male humanoids have an extremely small tinkle.

I have just heard about the European Space Agency's(ESA) plan for a Jovian Moons probe. They will apparently investigate the thickness of Callisto's ice crust. Sadly, no landings yet. It will also arrive there in 2030. It has the acronym 'JUICE'(JUpiter ICy moon Explorer).

Meanwhile...

back on Mars...

The Lab Rover is trundling around with my name etched into a microchip on it's back.

I'd totally forgotten I'd done this. I added the whole family 8)

Did anyone else do this?

Much as the original annoys me , I do love a 'nerd' parody. Will play that for my son in the morning as he loves science and likes PSY.

My son likes gang nam style too and I'm slightly embarrassed to say I'm with the boys on this one as I quite enjoy it too! Not that I'd be playing it inthe car or anything.

More 'science'....

I've had a quiet night tonight and so I've been catching up on some reading. Whilst flicking through Physics World I found a news story about a film called 'Decay'. It's filmed at CERN and the story is based on human exposure to Higgs radiation scenario. It's a low budget film, mainly shot in the tunnels at the LHC, and the actors are scientists. Looks fun!

A visit this week from fairly big asteroid toutatis, about just 7 million km away (not far away astronomically speaking) - slight chance that in a few centuries it will hit Earth
