Its a travesty the great british chippy has only been mentioned once, and its negative at that. Any chippy is superior to any other fast food outlet, as long as they're proper chips. Pretty much always cheap too, as long as you don't actually buy fish.

Theres a local independent mexican takeawaycalled amigos that is excellent and cheap. Last BK I struggled to finish, the actual burger meat was nice, nothing else about it was. Forced myself to finish it due to paying £8! Main meals in KFC are good, pity everything else there is terrible - the fries are always soggy and cold. Only Maccy's seem to do them right. Dominoes isn't too bad, though I wish they didn't use maize dough.

Youre right about the lack of chippy love. Well ill start some off.... Bedders chip shop in Hay Mills on the A45, just outside of Birmingham, across the road from Asda. Very traditional, no fancy crap like chicken kebabs and the like. Just plain old Cod, Haddock, Sausage, Mushy Peas etc. And the quality is superb, absolutely superb. Did I mention you can eat in too? With a nice bit of bread and butter and a cup of tea...lovely. This place is a haven for OAP's. It really is the best chippy I have been to.

To me, the chippy is always the biggest gamble in terms of quality.

Even if you go to one regularly, you only have to hit it at the wrong time and you've got soggy/luke warm/the dregs.

Get it right, and a chip bitty, fish cake and can of cherry coke is the best thing ever!

^ And a kebab or Chinese is the biggest gamble in terms of health!

Beans are too mushy and the coleslaw is too watery for me. I do remember seeing 2kg tins of KFC beans in a local pound shop, was still tempted until I thought how quickly I'd have to eat a tin of them once its been opened!

IMO thats the ideal time, those are the best chips when drowned in vinegar! Fries are best crispy though. There is a chippy near here that somehow qualifies itself as 'green' as it uses 'eco friendly oil' - their chips turn out rock hard!

I can honestly say this is not the case with Bedders, just different grades of excellent. And I have been there enough times to have had a stinker by now, according to the law of averages..

My local chippy is the most inconsistent chip shop I have ever known. When its nice its really nice, when its bad...
